Reviews for Marrying Daisy Bellamy
5 ratings5 reviews
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Marrying Daisy Bellamy is the latest in Susan Wiggs's Lakeshore Chronicles series, but you don't have to have read the whole series to enjoy this book. (It's my first, and Wiggs does an excellent job of telling you who everyone is and what you need to know about them.) It is a sweet story of love found, lost, and then found again, with a few unexpected detours along the way. Having some personal experience with some of the things that Daisy goes through in the book, I found her reactions to many situations to be spot on; however, I did not give this book a five-star rating because...well, most people just don't come back from the dead. It seemed just a little too neat that we find out Julian wasn't dead after all (which, honestly, you knew was going to be the case) at about the same time that Daisy and Logan realized that their marriage wasn't going to work out. Though I do love the idea of a "perfect love" out there for everyone, it's a fact that people die. Is there really just the one out there? Although it would have made Daisy's choice that much more difficult and heart-rendering, why couldn't she have also had a strong love and good relationship with her husband? No, the relationship wouldn't be the same as she had had with Julian, but then, they're different people. It just all seemed too pat to me, not to mention slightly discouraging for those of us whose spouses actually have passed on, with no chance of miraculous resurrection. (Was that it, then? No point in looking further? I'd like to think not...) All in all, though, it was a well-written and engaging story with likeable characters. Most people who don't share my particular issues should enjoy it thoroughly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The seventh book in The Lakeshore Chronicles. This book covers a span of three to four years. For years single mom, Daisy Bellamy, has been caring for her son and pursuing her career in photography. She has also been yearning for man she doesn't have, Julian Gastineaux. Daisy has been attracted to him since the day they met years ago at Camp Kioga. Julian was a dreadlocked, adventuresome boy from California and Daisy was a pot smoking girl from a family that was on the verge of breaking up. An unbreakable bond was formed that summer. But later, in an evening of rebelliousness, Daisy lost her way in the arms of another young man, Logan, and the result was her son. Now Julian is back in Avalon and the chemistry between them is still there. They are engaged, preparing to marry when Julian receives his orders from the Air Force for a special "training mission" in Columbia, South America. While it is always nice to return to Avalon with author, Susan Wiggs, this book became repetitious in its wanderings and the time frame for the story overly long. While it was a nice read, it was not my favorite of the series and probably one I would not read again.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Daisy has to choose between the father of her child and her highschool crush. Both want to marry her. The choice is made and them fate steps in and removes one. Daisy learns to cope.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was so excited to read Daisy's story (the build-up in previous books has been awesome) but I have to admit, I was disappointed. It's hard to give a description without spoiling the whole book but, for me, I didn't like it.Daisy and Jillian finally get their chance at love when life throws a curve ball. Logan is there to pick up the pieces and just when it seems things are settling again, another curve ball is thrown.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another in the Lakeshore Chronicles, this one focusing on Daisy Bellamy, who got pregnant in high school and has had a hard road since then. About halfway through, it looked as if this book had taken--was taking--a very wrong turn. But it comes out right in the end.
