    My Way - Igor Turuk

    soul."

    Let’s begin unconventionally

    Sell yourself!

Imagine a situation where you find yourself in an old city. It can be anywhere; in a hidden street of Bratislava, not far from La Madeleine in Paris, or in Prague. You walk the sweltering streets, the heat emanating from the blistering cobble stones that turns you into fakirs instead of people, who embarked upon a discovery of hidden corners and old houses whispering ancient stories. Suddenly, you are attracted to a small, concealed book shop with a window full of old books. To enter, or not? In the end, overcome with curiosity, you enter accompanied by the funny chiming of a door bell. There is a familiar, beautiful scent of old books replete with leather, dried up glue, and stories.

There is an older man standing behind the counter in the store’s corner, apparently pleased to have a visitor. He probably doesn’t suffer waves of customers hungry for books. Long ago he lost the fight against shopping malls offering comfort, air conditioning in the middle of the summer heat, and warmth in the winter months. The book stores there are huge, impersonal, and full of people who walk by each other without notice, engrossed in their own worlds. Everyone finds their book there, although one has to hunt through never ending shelves full of colourful volumes. When you approach a sales assistant, since shopkeepers no longer exist, you find out that although he’s helped you, you could have managed without his professional advice.

In the small shop you are as if in a different dimension. There, the magic of books is almost palpable. Mr. Shopkeeper, because you can call him that or by his first name – Mr. Bohuš – can do miracles. He makes you a cup of fragrant tea, simple yet wonderful, one you haven’t tasted in years. Perhaps ages ago in your grandparents’ village you once tasted something during your childhood that had the same flavour.

What are you looking for, young man? he asks with curiosity. It is the real curiosity of a person who wishes to offer you their service and advice.

I don’t even know. I admit, I was walking by and your little shop spoke to me enough to have to enter. Without knowing what I was looking for. And I had no idea I wanted to purchase a book, responds the visitor.

That happens; sometimes we seek things we don’t even know about. But I am certain that, in the end, we always find the right path, the idea which is as if lost in the depths of our consciousness, says the old man mysteriously.

Yes, that’s exactly what I wanted to tell you. I don’t know what I want but I am sure I’ll pick something up.

I’m sure you will, the shopkeeper attempted to reassure his future customer.

Right, I am certain about it. You know, I’ve been looking for something that could bring me happiness, success, and enjoyment of life. I am looking for a book which could provide that for me. Not the popular success manuals, something different, sparks the young man.

Well, that will be difficult, but I think I can find something for you. But, allow me to ask you, why are you seeking happiness and success? Are you dissatisfied with your life, or have you gone through a tough patch? inquires the old shopkeeper.

Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t confide in a stranger but this little shop has a vibe that sort of makes me open my mind. You know, I can’t see the meaning of life, I just sit, read magazines, watch TV, go to town sometimes, sometimes to the woods. I don’t like my job, my girlfriend left me and I just don’t feel like doing anything. I’m angry at the entire world, confides the visitor.

Oh, that’s bad; I’ve got to do something for you. I’ll prescribe a good book full of positive ideas. And what do you do? asked the man.

Basically nothing; I’m a history and art teacher at a primary school. I don’t make much money and have a lot of free time, which I fear. I have a phobia of being alone in those situations. I keep thinking about what it would be like if I managed to change something in my life, but get nowhere. So, every morning I take my briefcase, fill it with corrected tests and go teach.

And has a way to shed that negative attitude never crossed your mind? retorts the shopkeeper surprisingly with a question.

Not really. And I have my dreams and also talents, I think. I just have no clue how to express these talents, how to define my dreams. If only someone approached me, discovered my gift…, the teacher – visitor ponders.

You think someone will search for you? The shopkeeper couldn’t digest the response.

No clue, but perhaps, yes. How can I let myself be known? Don’t you think I’ve tried that? But you know how things go. You get nowhere without connections and their recommendations, and especially without money. I’ve made some attempts but to no avail. It was over sooner than it started, confesses the young man.

Cheer up, nothing’s lost. We need to help it, answers the bookseller and frenziedly begins to search for something.

The young man browses through the little shop, digging among books, inhaling the extraordinary atmosphere that fascinates him. The shopkeeper keeps searching for a particular book. He picks several, one by one, from the shelf and then returns them with a grunt. After a while, which seems to last hours, he speaks.

I found something, but it may not inspire you, the man informs his frowning visitor. It is something along the lines of how to sell yourself. Are you interested?

Not sure; sounds interesting but I don’t want to sell myself. I’m looking to improve my life, caress the soul, responded the disappointed young man.

The shopkeeper smiles mysteriously. No worries, I think it’ll be the hottest chicken soup for the soul. And you know what, you don’t have to buy it; I’ll give it to you if you promise to come back once you’ve read it. I’m interested to see how your life changes.

The young man thanks him, takes the book, places it in his bag and exits the book shop. Walking the streets, it seems as if he has ceased to perceive his surroundings. He continuously thinks about what the old man in the book shop said to him. Could something really be done with my life? he asks himself.

You may be having similar thoughts. Running in place you search for ways to change your life. Try selling yourself, offer your qualities, gifts and talent, discover new challenges in a way Igor Turuk did; and he’s offering you change. After all, change is life.

Join us in a world where you become independent, courageous, full of hope and personal goals!

    1. My Way: How to build a successful life and handle direct sales

Where are we heading? Why are we at a place we never desired? What future awaits us?

These and a tide of other questions absorb our minds every day, and perhaps most nights; they don’t give us respite, burning our existence. Why? What is the consequence of our eternal dissatisfaction?

It may sound harsh but in most cases, we ourselves are responsible for our lot in life. We’re always looking for the lost childhood, unfulfilled dreams, we complain about a bad job, unsuccessful marriage, about a boring and stereotypical life. Where are the fantastic days full of the summer caress of tall grass, a river’s whispers, and the blistering asphalt of the city? Everything seems millions of light years away. Is our current life just a mandatory ride? Do we have to live in the shackles of adulthood?

No, we don’t. Very little suffices for us to be able to bring a glimmer of hope into our life. We should first of all forget about all the negative thoughts that bind us and get rid of that nagging girlfriend called Laziness. At the onset of our lives we received a number of gifts among which a special one was free will, humanity’s biggest enemy. Free will separates us from primates and animals, but it also binds us with ropes we often cannot break. We decide our fate, our life’s mission; we choose the path we’ll walk. Some choose the simplest, straight, asphalted highway; others embark upon a hidden path full of twists and traps. At the end of each path a goal awaits us, the desired one or one more generic, ordinary, average. it is interesting that on the way we usually find a companion who significantly affects our journey. And the kind of companion joining us in the quest for goal fulfilment determines our satisfaction or dissatisfaction.

Why did I want to win? Because I didn’t want to lose!

    (Max Schmelling)

Americans and other heralds of happiness

Have you read many books – motivational or professional – about how to become a successful, independent person? Or, have you noticed that, according to the authors, marketing and big business are the simplest bridge to your happiness? So what if nothing panned out so far? Keep trying. It may seem that well coded bank account numbers of the authors are hidden in these book pages for the only success you’ve reached by buying that or the other one is the growing number of zeros in their accounts. In the beginning you’re always left with unfulfilled expectations that you place into the works of your favourite motivators. The question is whether you understood their message correctly. Their instructions don’t lie, but it requires some effort and diligence to change one’s habits. Believe me, it works. Each one of us can change the stereotypes of life, nudge boredom into a corner of the front room and ensure for ourselves new experiences, friends, money, freedom and independence. You don’t need any funds for it. Just want it.

All it takes is finding in you enough strength to overcome convenience and a negative attitude. Art, business, happiness and recognition are somewhere around the corner. All it takes is reaching out and taking it.

Jack Canfield, Rhonda Byrne, Marc Victor Hansen, Deepak Chopra, Oscar Wielbach, or Ivo Toman aren’t mistaken and they’re not trying to make a living at the expense of your happiness or money. You must believe that. They want to share their knowledge with you and to bring a new glimmer of hope into your life. Enter the light tunnel, and find something new and positive in you, something that changes your habits and your way of life from the ground up, something that teaches you to enjoy every second of your journey.

Let’s embark upon a journey at the end of which we will grasp success, a full life and also learn the art of business. For, if we understand the basic rules of both, we can achieve great things. And that’s not a worn out cliché; it is reality.

Every morning I looked for shells at the sand-banks which I cleaned perfectly, and the sold them to the tourists at the marketplace.

    2. When Childhood Tastes So Good

Childhood is a dream that used to be true.

(Jiří Mucha – son of the famous Czech painter and graphic artist, Alfons Mucha)

Childhood; a phenomenon we like to recall with pleasure. Moments with friends, vacations at grandparents’, pastimes by the sea. A dream that used to be true, and a reality that we recall, a reality we build a new life upon.

Enough with nostalgic introductions. Let’s try to sink into the CHILDHOOD surface and take a look at what formed us; what events, what environment, and what kind of people have been influencing us? Let’s get to know the story that stood at the beginning of My Way.

Indulge yourself a moment of peace, and then you will understand that you don’t have to hurry anymore.

    (Croatian Proverb)

The Adriatic sun was slowly settling into the arms of restful waves, preparing to leave the reign of the sky to the secrets of the night. Gentle tunes of a mandolin resounded from a nearby tavern, chanting about the beauties of the Croatian shore and the small fishing villages. Tourists were mingling with the locals and creating a compact mass eager for fun and rest after a hot and exhausting day. The promenade, clothed in a lucid robe, capitulated to a crowd whose only activity was to lick ice cream and negotiate prices with vendors who were hiding everything and nothing in their stands. Sea waves were whispering quietly, having a peaceful conversation with a nearby bulwark where small boats were swaying; a little further again was the spectacular yachts of the rich. Neighbouring coffee-bars’ and houses’ lights were reflected on the surface as if the little city was trying to cool off its sizzling limbs in the refrigerant waves of the Adriatic. The streets echoed with the babble of languages as if the biblical dwellers of Babylon punished by God for their disobedience were gathered here. An older married couple indulged themselves in rich portions of flavoursome seafood in a luxurious restaurant, while younger ones were cooling themselves off with Karlovačko beer and enjoying hamburgers. Evening was shaking hands with the night – the perfect setting for lovers and romantics. What can be prettier than a night in a littoral town?

Who would not be attracted to the idea of a long vacation by the sea? Free time, warm days, and beautiful nights. It is exactly such an environment that has motivated me to become successful. My story started to unreel on the shores of the Adriatic and I want to share it with you.

The gracious sea surface was caressing the sand-gravel beach; the sizzling stone streets were heartlessly burning like a baker’s oven and were already fooling with the sizzling bodies of tourists even
