About this ebook
The author congratulates you for picking up this fine collection of short stories about a little snake called Clarence.
The character of Clarence came about after the author found a six foot Eastern Brown Snake in her veggie patch. Having only lived in the township of Dunolly a short while, and wanting to avoid another such meeting, she decided to seek advice from the locals.
One person said snakes were deaf. Another said they would hear you coming and would run away. But how can they be deaf and hear you coming? After a short investigation on Google and half an hour spent with Sir David Attenborough, the author discovered that snakes hear vibrations through a special bone in their jaws.
This got her thinking...
What if a baby snake thought he was deaf?
What would he do?
How would he cope?
And thus, the character of Clarence the little snake was hatched.

Susan is an author, canine behaviourist, and a storyteller. She lives with her family and dogs, in particular, Rocky the Border collie and Stella, the blind dog. She spends her time blogging, writing and illustrating; training and counselling dogs and being bossed around by the family cat, Speed Bump Charlie and his sidekick, Furball (see Dogs in Space). Susan travelled around the world twice before she was seven years old. It seemed only fitting that the wonderful events she experienced and the places she visited on these journeys be recorded for history. Thus, her story telling skills began. Firstly, to Rupert Bear, her lifelong companion, and then to a host of imaginary friends and finally to her pet dog once the family finally set down roots in Australia. Susan is passionate about children's literature and wants to inspire children to be better people and encourage them to follow their dreams. She runs workshops for children teaching them how to form the wonders of their imaginations into stories. Susan lives in a small country town where there are more kangaroos than people. She shares her country property with four dogs, three cats, three rescue guinea pigs and a very large fish and her patient husband. More about her adventures are reflected in Clarence the Snake from Dunolly.

And just so you know… about Australian Snakes
Australian snakes are very dangerous. Clarence and his kind would rather avoid meeting you all together. It’s nothing personal, it’s just a snake / human thing.
Never go into the bush unless you are wearing boots and long pants, preferably jeans. While snakes are more active in spring and summer they don’t hibernate and could bite you at any time! If you are bitten seek medical treatment immediately.
Story 1 – Introducing Clarence the Deaf Snake
Clarence was born when the sun was high in the sky and the earth was dry near a small town called Dunolly
