The Astral Ordinance Book III - Meltem Y K

    CHAPTER 1

As the sun rays brightened Jayna’s room, she stirred lazily. She tried to move, but couldn’t. Something was weighing her down. She panicked; why was she pinned down in her bed? She opened her eyes and cautiously looked around.

An arm was draped over her. There was a man sleeping in her bed.

She was wide awake instantly. Her heart hammered in her chest. What was going on? Who was this man in her bed? She froze for a moment, controlled her breathing and focused her energy. Years of martial arts training kicked into auto pilot. She wasn’t thinking anymore, only acting. She quickly moved the man’s arm off of her, grabbed the bo staff next to her bed and pinned the man down in one fluid motion.

Who are you and what the hell are you doing in my bed? Jayna hissed at the man.

Ethan opened his eyes and blinked a few times. Jayna was holding him down with a bo staff, apparently not recognizing her own husband.

    Easy babe, it’s me.

Jayna’s heart gave a huge thud and fell into her stomach.

    Ethan?

    Yeah.

Jayna was totally confused. What are you doing here?

Ethan looked into her eyes. I slept with you last night, remember?

Jayna was dumbfounded. She couldn’t get a word out. She only shook her head.

Ethan prodded her memory. The ban was lifted and I came to you.

The events of last night came to Jayna in a flash: The family had gone to see the fireworks for Canada Day celebrations at Columbia Lake where they had run into the Shadow woman and her demon. The Shadow woman had gone into labour, given birth to many demon spawns that Ethan’s dragon had killed with his fiery breath. The Shadow woman was devastated and ordered the demon to kill the humans. Jayna’s grandmother, Evelyn, was the unlucky victim. She could not be saved and had lost her life.

Jayna let go of the bo staff, her arms falling limply to her sides. Ethan caught it and slowly put the bo staff away, pulled Jayna into a warm embrace and held her tight.

She inhaled his familiar scent, and then touched his back, his arms, and his face then squeezed his biceps.

    Are you convinced it’s me?

    You are real, aren’t you?

Jayna burst into tears. It’s true then, everything that happened last night?

Ethan solemnly nodded. I am sorry, babe.

Jayna’s sobs came in torrents. Ethan didn’t know how to console her. He rubbed her back and stroked her hair.

I am very sorry about Evelyn. I wish there was something I could do. Ethan paused for a moment, She came to you, didn’t she?

Jayna nodded while she wiped the tears from her face.

She wants us to hold the family together.

    Jayna nodded again.

Keep reminding them that there is no death, only leaving the body.

Yeah, that’s what’s so hard about it. I should know better, but it’s so hard when the person you lost is someone you love so much.

Ethan held her tighter; words were not necessary. Sometimes you didn’t have to say anything, just listen.

She told me something incredible last night.

    I know.

    Do you think it’s true?

Ethan shrugged. I think so, since the ban is lifted and I’m allowed to come to you.

Jayna’s eyes lit up. Could you really do that? What you told me last night?

    Ethan nodded again. I’m here.

    You can really teleport!

    He modestly nodded in response.

Jayna took a deep breath and sighed heavily. I can’t believe you are here; instead of jumping for joy, I am crying.

Maybe you shouldn’t cry so much. Your grandmother wouldn’t want you to be so sad and heartbroken.

It isn’t good for the baby. Evelyn’s voice was loud and clear in the room.

    Did you hear that?

    Ethan nodded.

You know you heard me, Jayna. Stop moping around, go down and share your good news with the family and show off your husband. Isn’t this what you always wanted?

Jayna smiled and wiped the tears away from her face.

Am I always gonna hear your voice, grandma?

When you need me, all you have to do is call and I will be here. Now, get going.

Jayna sprang into action. She opened her bedroom door and looked out to the hallway.

Coast is clear. Run to the bathroom.

    Ethan obeyed without a question.

I’ll grab some towels, she said

Jayna took an armful of fresh towels from the linen closet next to her bedroom and ran to the bathroom. She dropped them on the counter and locked the door.

Sorry, babe, I don’t have an ensuite. That’s my parents’ privilege in this house.

Ethan dismissed her apology. Hey, it’s okay. A bathroom is a bathroom. Let’s have that shower.

You have a choice of lavender, wild berries, kiwi or Liam’s Spiderman shampoo, Jayna offered.

Ethan laughed, It’s been a while since I used Spiderman shampoo. Why don’t I bring my own?

Before Jayna could say anything, Ethan disappeared and reappeared with a bottle in his hand.

You went home and brought back your own shampoo in a second, Jayna said. Do you know how many times I Googled the distance between here and there? That’s a trip that would take you twenty-two and a half hours to drive, or four hours to fly, but you did it in a second.

Babe, the distance was never the problem for us. I could have been here in a split second. I didn’t come, because I was forbidden.

Jayna simply shook her head. I really need that shower to clear my head.

She turned on the water and adjusted it to really hot, just the way she loved it. They jumped in the shower and spent the next fifteen minutes under the soothing hot water.

Nothing like a nice hot shower to wash away the worries, Jayna said. Speaking under the running water was a lot easier if you could do it telepathically.

Jayna stepped out of the shower wrapped herself in thick Turkish towels, courtesy of Ayshen and her latest trip to Turkey. Ethan dried himself and grabbed his discarded clothes. Jayna opened the bathroom door a crack and peeked into the hallway. No one was there.

    Run, she said to Ethan.

Babe, how about you walk to your room and I’ll meet you there? Ethan vanished.

Jayna gave her head a shake. I have to get used to this, he can pop around on Earth like the way we do in the Astral plane.

She walked to her room. Ethan was waiting for her there.

    Jayna, are you hiding me?

Jayna burst out laughing. No, of course not – well sort of, but only for a few minutes. I want to be able to do the introductions in a respectable way. I will feel really silly if my parents found a guy in my room.

    I am your husband.

You know what I mean. We’ve never done this before. I always dreamed of us being together, but never imagined it would be like this. I thought I’d go to the airport and pick you up, and drive home and we’d have an hour on the road to make small talk, you know.

Okay, so we missed an hour on the road and small talk.

Ethan, don’t give me a hard time.

Ethan laughed at Jayna’s frustration and pulled her in for a tight hug.

    I’m just razzing you, babe.

Jayna was back to her normal self, not dwelling over her grandmother’s sudden death. She pulled some clothes out of her closet and laid them on her bed, then looked at Ethan. You need fresh clothes.

Right, I’ll just pop home, get dressed and be right back.

Jayna shook her head, still having a hard time adjusting to this new reality. Okay, that’ll work.

I’ll go get dressed, but not before I kiss you. He pulled Jayna into his arms and gave her a gentle kiss.

Jayna was suddenly dizzy and swayed in Ethan’s arms.

    Are you okay?

Jayna nodded. Yeah, just a little dizzy.

You need to go down and have some breakfast, Jayna. Remember your condition, Evelyn warned her granddaughter.

Right. Okay grandma, we’ll go down.

Jayna wrapped her arms around Ethan’s neck and pulled him back for another kiss. You smell so good, she said as Liam opened the door and barged in.

Liam, Jayna shouted at him. Knock first.

Liam froze in his tracks. Jayna was wrapped in the arms of a man in nothing but a towel.

Jay, he yelled. Who is this guy in your room?

Busted, Jayna said to Ethan. There goes my respectable introduction of you to the family.

Ethan turned around. It’s okay, Liam. It’s me.

Whoa, Liam said his mouth open, eyes big as saucers. Ethan? Liam looked at his sister than back to Ethan. Are you really here?

    Yep.

Oh man, wait till I tell mom and dad.

Liam dashed downstairs to deliver the news.

Mom, dad…. His voice trailed as he ran down the steps.

Ethan shrugged and smiled. I better put some clothes on. He poofed into thin air, and Jayna was left holding a towel.

I might start calling him Houdini, Jayna murmured to herself.

Grace and Paul – pulled by Liam – walked into Jayna’s room and gave a cursory look to their surroundings.

    Liam, Grace said.

Mom, I swear, Ethan was standing right here, he pointed with his finger. And he was wearing nothing, but a towel.

Uhmmm, Paul cleared his throat. Liam, we all had a very traumatic night. We are in shock, but as you can see, he paused for a split second trying soften his words, there is no one here except your sister.

Jay, tell them Ethan was in the room with you. They think I am crazy.

Jayna tightened the belt on her robe to make sure she was decent. It’s true.

Grace and Paul looked at their daughter. Honey, we are all under a lot of stress, Paul said.

Grace only shook her head thinking that all this Astral travel stuff and the stress of recent events finally took their toll on her children.

Guys, this is a difficult time for all of us. Why don’t we go down and have breakfast, then we’ll talk.

Bill walked out of the spare bedroom and just stared at them. He was pale and had bags under his eyes which were still red from all the crying he did in the night.

What’s all the commotion here? he asked, but his voice was weak; it had none of the authority it usually held.

Nothing, dad, Grace said. We’re going down for breakfast.

Liam was yelling about something, Bill said, but didn’t have any spunk in him to press the point.

Grace was about to tell everyone to go downstairs when Ethan appeared at the very spot Liam was pointing earlier – fully dressed.

    Jayna’s face lit up.

You see? Liam screamed. I wasn’t lying to you.

    Good morning everyone, Ethan said.

Grace, are we having a mass hallucination? Paul asked.

Grace was just as dumbfounded as her husband. She reached with her hand to touch Ethan.

    Are hallucinations solid? Grace asked.

Nobody is hallucinating mom, Jayna said. Ethan is really here.

But he just appeared out of thin air.

Jayna nodded. Apparently he can do that.

Ethan confirmed it with a nod of his own. I will explain everything. Why don’t we go down and let Jayna put some clothes on. She’s been standing in that robe for awhile.

Right, Paul said blushing and headed downstairs. Grace took Liam’s hand and followed her husband. Coming, dad? she asked Bill who was rubbing his eyes.

They went to the kitchen and Grace quickly poured coffee for her father.

Would you like a cup of coffee, Ethan? she asked her son-in-law. She didn’t even know if Ethan drank coffee or not.

    Yes, please; black.

Everyone was feeling a little awkward. Here was their son-in-law of three years that they were seeing for the first time in the flesh. They had all met him at the wedding, but that was in the Astral dimension where everything was surreal.

Ethan wanted to break the ice. I am sorry for your loss, he said. I wish there was something we could do to change the events of last night. I am very sorry that I wasn’t there when the demon turned on Evelyn.

Bill nodded, but didn’t say anything.

I don’t know what would have happened if their spawn made contact with the public. I had to go after them.

We aren’t blaming anyone, Grace said.

Jayna walked into the kitchen and sat next to Ethan.

It wasn’t anyone’s fault mom. Sometimes things happen because they were meant to.

Demon or no demon, it was my time to go. If not that, it would have been something else, maybe a car accident on the way home, and I would have died.

Grace looked at her husband then her father and finally her children. She was in full panic mode.

Did anyone else hear that or am I losing my mind?

I heard that, Bill announced. Evelyn! Are you here?

Grandma, Liam called. We can hear you.

Grace was looking around trying to figure out where her mother’s voice was coming from.

I am right here, Grace, next to your father.

Evelyn touched Bill’s shoulder and his hand shot up to the spot.

    Evelyn?

Yes, Bill. I am right here, beside you.

Bill burst into tears sobbing like a baby.

Dad, please, don’t do this to yourself. Don’t do it to us, Grace begged.

That’s right, Bill. You’ve cried enough. The pity-party is over. I came to you, but couldn’t make myself heard with all the crying and sobbing. I am still with you; I haven’t gone anywhere.

Go on, everybody, eat up. You’ve got a long day ahead of you; can’t function on an empty stomach.

I am not hungry, Bill said.

You may not be hungry, but I still want you to eat.

Okay. Let’s eat then. Everybody, eat up, Bill ordered.

Jayna rose from her seat and went to get bowls and cereal from the cupboards. Ethan followed her. Let me help you, he said.

I can help, too, Liam offered.

How about you get the cutlery? Jayna suggested.

    Sure.

Grace was still in shock. She wanted to get up and make breakfast, but she was glued to her chair.

It’s okay, mom. I’ll make breakfast, Jayna said cutting up bagels and putting them in the toaster.

Liam, could you get the jam and honey, please? Jayna instructed Liam.

    Yep.

Jayna, tell me what to do, Ethan said. I really want to help you.

Could you slice some cheese? Jayna said aloud to Ethan. ‘The cutting board is in this drawer."

The breakfast table was ready in a jiffy.

Evelyn, are you still with us? Bill asked his voice shaky.

Yes, I am. Now, be a good man and eat your breakfast, Bill. Jayna and Ethan have something to tell you all.

Grace stopped buttering her bagel and looked at her daughter. What’s wrong?

Nothing is wrong, mom; except for grandma, of course.

What is it that you have to tell us?

Jayna looked at Ethan. He smiled and encouraged her to continue. Go ahead and tell them babe. They could use some cheering up.

Grace heard the buzz between them, but didn’t ask what they were talking about. They were husband and wife after all. They could speak privately if they wanted to.

Ethan and I have some news for you, Jayna said smiling.

    Grace waited holding her breath.

    I am pregnant.

    Grace’s mouth fell open.

Close your mouth, Grace, Evelyn said. Congratulations. You are going to be a grandmother.

How is that even possible? Grace asked. They’ve never even been together.

They’ve been together plenty, Evelyn said, just not in this dimension.

Jayna and Ethan blushed deep red.

Ummm, should I leave the room? Liam asked.

Nobody needs to leave the room, Evelyn said loud and clear. Jayna and Ethan have been married three years. They managed to make a baby in the Astral world that will be born on Earth. Theirs is a very special baby.

Grace sprung out of her chair and went to hug her daughter and then her son-in-law.

Congratulations you two, she said with tears in her eyes.

Hey, I am gonna be an uncle, Liam announced to no one in particular.

I am going to be a grandfather, Paul said smiling ear to ear. He hugged his daughter and gave Ethan a slap on the back.

Bill, aren’t you excited? We are going to be great-grand parents?

Oh, yes; I am excited. Congratulations kids.

I can’t wait to tell my parents, Ethan said.

You mean they don’t know Grace asked surprised.

Ethan shook his head. Nobody but the people in this room.

Grace checked her watch. Your folks must be up now. Why don’t we call them?

She paused for a second, remembering that Ethan could communicate with his parents telepathically.

What’s the plan for the day, Jayna asked. I mean what are we doing about grandma? She shrugged feeling weird. Sorry Grandma, I know you are here, but we have to take care of business, you know.

I don’t want any fuss over my death, so there won’t be a public funeral. Grace, you go ahead and put an announcement in the Obituaries, in fact I will tell you exactly what to say. The family would like to mourn privately, so no visitors please. I am sure people will understand. This all happened quite suddenly. I don’t want any of you crying any more than you already have.

The family listened to Evelyn’s instructions and nodded. They would honour Evelyn’s wishes.

I want my remains to be cremated and you can put my ashes in a nice urn. And this is all we are going to say about my death. End of discussion.

    That’s it? Bill asked.

That’s exactly it. These are very exciting times people. Jayna and Ethan are pregnant. They are bringing a Mahavatar to the world.

What is a Mahavatar? Grace asked.

A Mahavatar is a highly evolved soul, an esteemed master, a great incarnation of such a soul into body.

Wow, Liam said. No kidding. I am going to be a Mahavatar’s uncle.

Bill was quietly listening to the banter around him and slowly gaining his composure. Evelyn was dead, but not gone. She was still here communicating with them. Their granddaughter was pregnant with a very special baby. He felt some things stir in him.

How about it, Ethan, will you contact your folks and invite them over? Grace asked again.

Of course, Ethan said and disappeared, reappearing a few seconds later while the rest of them watched with their mouths hanging open. Ethan could really teleport on the Earth plane.

They are finishing up breakfast; they will be here soon.

Grace, you go ahead and call the paper. Bill, you call the funeral home. Paul and Liam, you two clear the breakfast table. Ethan, you take Jayna to the family room and make her comfortable.

No one even thought about questioning Evelyn’s orders.

They are here, Liam announced a half hour later. He was waiting for their guests by the front window.

Open the door, Liam, Grace said coming to welcome them.

Ethan’s mother, Estelle, was holding a bouquet of summer flowers. Good morning, everyone, she said handing the flowers to Grace. How is everybody this morning?

Everybody is adjusting quite nicely, Evelyn answered. How are you folks doing?

The guests stopped in their tracks and looked at one another. They had all clearly heard Evelyn’s voice.

Grandma’s been talking to us, Liam explained.

Is that right? Estelle asked. Well, that is wonderful. She smiled to Liam first then made eye contact with Grace and the rest of the family members.

Evelyn, this is fantastic. I’m so happy you made such clear contact. I am sure your presence is taking the edge off their pain of loss.

No loss, Estelle. I am still here with them.

The guests looked at each other smiling and nodding. This is great, they all agreed.

Don’t just stand there; you know where the family room is.

Yes, please, come in, Grace said and they all walked to the spacious family room where everyone’s jaw dropped to the floor at the site of Ethan.

Estelle was first to speak. Ethan, what are you doing here? she asked. I mean, what are you doing here in the flesh? You can’t go against the Master’s wishes.

I didn’t, Ethan said. The ban was lifted last night.

How did that happen? Everybody wanted to know.

Are you going to tell them or shall I? Evelyn asked, which made everyone even more curious.

    What’s happening? Estelle asked.

Mom, dad, everybody, Ethan said making sure he included everyone in the room. Jayna is pregnant.

The room exploded with exclamations of wonder, joy, and cheers. Estelle ran to hug and congratulate the new parents-to be.

This is a miracle, Sunny said. This baby was conceived in the Astral plane and will be born on Earth. Sunny, a Lightworker-housekeeper had helped raise Ethan since he was a young boy and thought of him as the son she never had. Naturally, she was very proud that Ethan was about to become a father.

That explains the reason they could not meet on the Earth, Ethan’s father, Ray said. The conception had to take place in the Astral plane.

The Masters always have a reason when they ask you something, Estelle said voicing everyone’s thoughts. So, how are you feeling and how far are you?

Jayna smiled and shrugged. I guess I am okay except for the nausea and dizziness. Grandma is the one who told me I am pregnant, maybe we should ask her how far I am.

You are just pregnant, Jayna. You haven’t even missed a period yet.

The men pretended not to hear the last part of Evelyn’s answer.

Access to such information must be a benefit of being permanently out of body, Sunny surmised.

    That’s right.

Wow, things sure can change in a hurry. We came to see how we could help you with the funeral arrangements, but got off topic, Estelle said.

All of that’s been taken care of, Evelyn said. There won’t be any
