About this ebook

A TRUE DREAM novel is a fiction story told from the character point-of-view on the romantic journey to getting married. They are true romance stories that should leave you warm and dreamy. Each story ends in marriage whether it is stated or not.

British-raised Banji couldn’t be bothered who got married first, the elder or the younger. He was engaged to Deke, Abike’s younger sister. Abike’s family didn’t like the idea but since Abike had chosen a life of recluse for herself, the family had no choice but to allow Deke to go ahead with her marriage. But half-way through the plans, Banji begins to act up. Before anyone knows what’s going on, Banji takes a scandalous decision that throws everyone into confusion, especially Deke and Abike.

My junior sister, Deke, got engaged at the age of twenty-five. I was sincerely happy for her because I had missed my opportunities at that age, and all I wanted for her was to ‘not be like me.’

Deke’s fiancé, Banji, had lived in the UK from the time he was six, and only recently returned to Nigeria, thirty years later to franchise a fashion line for West Africa. The business was lucrative, and he made a lot of money. His aunt, someone I believe had tremendous influence on him, or so I thought, was my paternal aunt’s best friend, and the two old ladies decided to seal their relationship with a marriage in the family. And so they arranged for Banji to meet Deke.

When my aunt Funke later told me they had toyed with the idea of me being introduced to Banji, I had laughed. She told me they’d even showed our two pictures and Banji had opted for Deke. Smart guy, I’d thought.

My parents loved the idea. From a family of four, I was the first, and Deke was the last. The two boys between us were already married. Needless to say, I was now being seen as an old maid, at close to thirty-five. Not that it bothered me in any way.

I enjoyed living alone in Ifa in Ondo state, a small town where I was principal of a small Pentecostal secondary school. The founder of the Pentecostal church and an indigene of Ifa had built the school as community service so there really wasn’t much to it. The local children attended the school. The salary was ridiculous, but I was happy with my life.

My parents and everyone else in my family hated the life I had come to carve for myself. They had given up on redeeming me, and so be it. My life was buried in my work, and in my faith. Join old maid to religious fanaticism, and the result was far from palatable, especially
