Introduction
Battambang is the second largest city in Cambodia, and the Capital of Battambang province. It does not have the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh, but more a rustic atmosphere. It is the leader in rice production, and was the major commercial hub for almost 100 years. Situated 170km from Siem Reap, next to the Sangkae River. Battambang can be reached by boat or road, with daily buses departing from both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh to it. Much of the French Colonial architecture remains, and adds to the attraction of the city. The city is still today a major hub for trade in the area, with easy access to the Poipet border crossing to Thailand. The border crossing is a favorite amongst expats that do visa runs.
There are a number of temples and attractions found around Battambang, including a few resorts a few km out of town that offer bird watching opportunities and observing local farmers by being located in the midst of countless serene rice fields, such as Battambang Resort.
This book gives you 20 attractions in and around Battambang that
