Anything I Wanna Be - Gloria Clark
Great
PART 1
When it’s hard
Life won’t always be easy or seem fair, but that’s okay.
Push through the tough stuff and soar.
In this section, we hope the poems and stories will help you to realize that though you may be down sometimes, know you don’t have to stay down.
Chapter 1
Boyfriend woes can’t keep you down
When You Left
You disappeared.
But I re-appeared
When You Left.
I was heart broken,
Unspoken
With those lonely nights
Hoping & praying you’re all right.
Checking for missed calls
So I could just fall
Back for you
So I could just be in your arms
Back into harm
Back to the crying
Dark shadow nights
Back to the wrist bleeding
Over eating
Cheating
Beating
And repeating how much I love you
If only you would listen
Unturning myself from a
Christian
Doing whatever sparks your interest
Sit
Backflips
Bending Over
Looking for 4 Leaf Clovers
To make a wish
To get me out of this twisted mind
And Rewind
To the beginning
When You Left
I walked forward
Into darkness, screamed pain
Into that screams go away
Blind from the inside
How can I find you
When I can’t even find myself….
But I kept walking
Hoping you would leave a sign
But then I came to a fork in the road
And I saw you!
You looked at me in my eyes and lied
You said you would still be mine
AND I would be yours
You came closer
And I opened my heart
To let you in
Smell your scent
See your smile
Already feeling like we are back together
Back to old times
When we were little and giggled and…
It felt just like home
Until You Left
You looked me dead in my eyes and ran
Left
You left me …Hands and…All..
I got on my knees and begged
Please come back!
But it was too late.
I slept alone last night.
When the sun rose …
There was no sign of you
I sucked my pride
And wiped my tears…
And Went Right
When You Left
I am Tough
The finest boy in school was standing in front of me, breaking my heart.
Logan, let me just cut to the chase and give it to you straight…we’re through. It was fun. You’re cute and all, but I’ma be honest…the thrill is gone, girl. You gave a brother what he needed, and I’m out. Don’t call me, text me, or instant message me. I gotta move on to the next girl, and I just wanted you to hear it from me that we were officially broken up,
Kelvin said.
The last day of school was supposed to be a happy time, but Kelvin had just made this one of the worst days of my life.
I didn’t mean to stand there with my mouth wide open, but I was completely embarrassed. All my girls were around me and even a few haters were looking on. Kelvin Jackson was the hottest hunk at Petersburg High School in Virginia. He was six-four, with a chiseled frame, gorgeous wavy black hair, and lips that made you want to suck them.
We were both finishing our junior year, where all year we’d been a couple. Freshman and sophomore year, he had walked straight past me. However, when I lost the braces, glasses, and my boobs grew when we started junior year, he turned my way.
I made him sweat a little bit. I wasn’t a dumb sister. I made him take me out. I wasn’t always available when he called and for months, I kept my legs closed.
Prom was our night, though. It had only been two months ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was dressed up like a princess, sequin, silver mermaid that was strapless and had a nice V cut in the back. He couldn’t keep his eyes off my booty, and I wanted my hands all over him.
So, while our friends were eating in the restaurant, Kelvin and I stayed in the limo and had the best kind of dessert. You know what I mean? After prom, we had fun again and every week thereafter, eight more times. On Tuesdays, after school, we were at his place because that was the day both of his parents worked late, and my parents thought I was doing after school stuff.
I thought you loved me,
I said, whining.
My girl, Jazz snapped me out of it. Logan, don’t beg.
Kelvin nodded in agreement and I stood dumbfounded. Then, hearing no more objections, he walked away. Four other girls ran after him. If I had a glass in my hand, I would have chugged it at the back of his head, but what good would that do me? He’d get sympathy and would be seen as the victim. I’d be in trouble or be looked at as a nut case. I couldn’t give him the satisfaction.
Thinking back, my mom always told me to stay a virgin. That was my plan. However, when he whispered sweet things in my ear, nibbled on my neck, told me I was the most precious thing in the world, and took off his shirt, I wanted him badly. Regrettably, I couldn’t hold off. Now, in the moment of having nothing after giving him everything, I felt stupid.
I understood why she said I was precious. I understood that I had let my emotions get the best of me. I didn’t even realize that the tears were falling, but Jazz wiped them and told me it was going to be okay. My friend, Shelly, whisked me away to the closest restroom.
Where’d I go wrong, y’all? What else could I have done?
I uttered in despair.
The way both of them were pitifully staring at me I knew they wanted to tell me ‘I told you so’. All year they’d told me he was a jerk. I didn’t listen. I did what I wanted to do and now, I was devastated, having nobody else to blame but me.
How am I supposed to put the pieces back together,
I said to the both of them. Where am I supposed to go from here? He’s got offers from University of Virginia, Notre Dame, Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky to play basketball. What do I have?
Logan, last time I checked,
Jazz said, "your little self
