In the middle of the desert, a jackrabbit hops. A whippet sees the movement. Instantly, the dog races across the ground as its owner watches. The rabbit runs, but the whippet is too fast. In a few minutes, the dog has caught the rabbit in its mouth and killed it. The hunt is over.

Whippets use their good eyesight to hunt.

Many miles away, deep in a forest, a cottontail rabbit stops to nibble some grass. A bassett hound smells the rabbit’s trail. The dog sniffs the ground an inch at a time, moving slowly toward the rabbit. The hunter follows. Hours later, the hound finds the
