Outfoxing The Fox

ONE of the most leisurely and yet rewarding sports is that of fox whistling, because you must be able to outwit your quarry who is naturally very wary. Reynard, the fox figures prominently in the legends and folklore of Europe and is specially lauded for his cunning in Aesop's Fables.

The fox (vulpes-vulpes) belongs to the family of wild dogs in which wolves, coyotes, hyenas and all domestic canines are closely related. The common red fox, which was imported to Australia from England to provide sport for the landed gentry, is widely distributed all over Europe and the North American continent. The fox is not a big animal and once divested of its thick fur coat, is about the size of a large hare. Hence it does not take a very powerful rifle to stop a fox.
