I woke up in the damnedest environment: I lay in half-darkness on a field of corn-stalks with no corn! The ground beneath me, coloured somewhere between pink and brown, gave to the touch and each square foot had a small dip in the middle, from which oozed slowly a pale liquid. The ground felt damp.

To be honest, the corn stalks were too high and the light from above seemed unnatural.

Damned weird! I told myself.

I rolled onto my side and noticed that I wore no clothes. And yet I didn’t feel cold.

I shook my head and sat up. Where had the bed gone? I had gone to sleep next to Jenny, as usual and now I could see no sign of her, or anything else I could recognise!

I decided to get up and walk; it always helped me to think. So I headed towards the light, assuming that would be East; for no other reason than I liked the Sun, always a constant in a shifting world.
