About this ebook
Book One. Rae Wilder has problems. Supernatural creatures swarm the earth, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. Stalked by a handsome fairy who claims she is like him, demonkind, Rae thinks maybe it was a mistake breaking the rules by going over the Wall into demon territory. Plunged into a world of dark magics, fierce creatures, and ritual sacrifice, she is charged with a guarding a magical amulet. The changes to her mind and body are startling, but rather than accept her purpose she struggles against who she is destined to be. Throw in a big lust for a vampire who can't keep his hands off her, and life starts to get complicated. Rae is forced to make the ultimate choice: to live and die human, or embrace her birth-right and wield magics that could turn her into something wicked, a force of nature nothing can control. BrE.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book. Can't wait to read the next two. I gotta know what's gonna happen. This book has a lot of twists in it and it kept me guessing right up to the end!!!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The book was awful. Very amateurish. I wouldn't recommend anything by this author.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not a bad story all around, but could do with a prof-reader to clean up some of the errors.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I quite enjoyed it and I will definitely get the other books in the series. Why I can see that some people might not like Rae, I didn't have a problem with her character. The only thing that annoyed me while reading is that lots of times there are words missing in a sentence, so it doesn't really make sense or it is unclear what is being refered to. Other than that, I think it is a good read, the storyline is quite clear and it makes you curious on how it will all end.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book was 100% what I expected based on the reviews I read. I grabbed it because it was free, and it kept popping up while I was looking at various urban fantasy lists on Amazon and GoodReads. There were lots of great ideas in this book, and I loved the unique landscape painted in my head. I don't know if the author intended, but I pictured much of the book set in this gray concrete desolation with flashes of intense color from the characters and certain settings. The visual style is almost comic-book or cartoon, but not quite.I read the new version that came out in April 2012, so according to the author the writing has been polished. It was very readable, although at times I was confused about who was talking or exactly what was going on in the action. Certain aspects of events seemed disjointed, slightly off. Other than that, no problems with the prose. Some of the readers complained that they simply hated the main character, Rae. This might have been cleaned up in the revisions, because I liked her fine. But I didn't love her. In terms of capturing the personality of a mythological creature, especially a fairy, the author arguably does an excellent job. Rae is fiery, impulsive, confusing, and indecisive. And not always all that bright. She is not human, and therefore does not act human. Perhaps we shouldn't love her.It is incredibly fast-paced. Perhaps too fast paced. We never really get a chance to stop and heal (as readers), it's just right on to the next conflict. This is the kind of book that I could almost love, if not for its little flaws. If you like urban fantasy and fairies, this book will not be a waste of time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5From the beginning this young adult novel did not disappoint. The scenes immediately pull you in and keep the interest of the one reading with constantly something happening you feel as if it never slows down and that is a good thing. There were tasteful romance scenes and nothing to over the top for a young adult novel. I eagerly flipped the pages wishing time and again my daughter was old enough to start in on a series of books from this writer. I know in the future it will be one I suggest to her if she hopefully keeps up with her creative imagination as well. The story took many twist and turns allowing you to never guess or know the ending unless you had read the book. I keep going back and reading segments even as I type and finding something new within. The author took the time to develop each character giving them their own personalities there were no two the same and the best part is there is more which I can not wait to read. I look forward to more in the next book and segment of this series. Thanking the author with all my heart for the wonderful read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not at all a bad Fantasy story. Fletcher's narrative keeps you going and keeps you interested. Rae herself is a bit unlikeable, honestly, but her character is basically sound. The world is not well developed, but it is more thought-out than so many of similar books, so I give Fletcher credit for taking this story seriously. Perhaps in future books the world itself will be developed more. If it is, then I think we will have a pretty solid setting here. The worst parts of the book is when it falls into cliché. I'm simply tired of the protagonist female being torn by two men -- one good, one evil -- and not knowing which way to turn. The good character appeals to her goodness, but sometimes she cannot help the dark lust of the other. Ultimately, when you really think about, Rae is ready in this book to overturn an entire civilization over two guys that she met two days before. This sort of hormone-driven morality doesn't appeal to me at all. I prefer a protagonist that's guided by more than her sex-drive.That being said, this is a decent work, and a promising first effort by the writer. I wouldn't mind grabbing the second book in this one.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Awful, awful, awful. This is the first real negative review I've ever had to write about a book because, honestly, it was a horrible excuse for a novel. There was no character development, the plot very rushed and skipped around leaving me a little confused at points, nothing was fleshed out like it should have been, there wasn't enough description and, worst of all, the editing seemed to have been non-existent. At the time I acquired this book it was only available on NookBook. It's riddled with grammatical and spelling errors and paragraphs that start mid-sentence. At least a few times there were references to things in this fantasy world with no description as to what those things actually were. It was released last month in paperback and I can only hope that an editor looked it over before it was published. It says first in a series and I guarantee you I will not be reading any subsequent books.I have to admit, I seriously considered not finishing this one and I only skimmed the ending.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I liked the storyline of Demon Girl, it includes elements of action, suspense and romance that are well balanced. The Demon Girl is written with enthusiasm and passion for the world and characters Fletcher has created. The dystopian world includes warring tribes of fairy and predatory vampires, and to a lesser extent witches and shifters. Humans are under seige by these demons and Rae lives under the protection of the Sect, training to become a cleric. Yet Rae has always felt she doesn't quite fit in. When she ventures outside the wall she meets Breandan, a fairy to whom she is irresistably drawn and discovers the truth of her heritage. Rae is not human, and is the guardian of a powerful medallion which pitches her into the center of a magic battle for power. I think the premise is strong, it provides plenty of scope for action and suspense as Rae decides who to trust. Fletcher teases out the main story thread a bit haphazardly, at times the story stalls but in the main Fletcher moves the story forward well. The internal conflict between the fae adds an interesting depth and its obvious Fletcher carefully thought out the background and main plot points.Rae is both likeable and irritating. Her almost constant vacillating between denial and acceptance gets a bit wearing but she has strength and courage when needed. I think she lacks the maturity to appeal to a more mature audience but a YA readership will enjoy her rebelliousness.Rae and Breandan's fated romance is an appealing element. As the main love interest, Breandan is suitably masculine in description and behaviour despite Rae referring to him as FairyBoy. Tomas is a vampire that becomes the third point in a romantic triangle with Rae and Breandan. Initially it seemed Tomas had a specific purpose within the main storyline but I felt that it wasn't adequately developed or resolved, his reasons for seeking out Rae were lost once Rae's attachment to him was established. While I admire the storyline, there is a lack of sophistication in Fletcher's style and I think the story would benefit from some experienced editing. There are also numerous copy issues, including grammar, spelling and structural errors, that I fairly itched to correct with a red pen. Fletcher has some real potential as a storyteller, her writing is wonderfully descriptive and Demon Girl has a creative storyline and characters. Fletcher's obvious enthusiasm for writing can only lead to better things as she learns more about the craft.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Judging from the star rating on this book, people don't seem to like it, but for a free book, it was hardly bad. It can be a little confusing getting everything straight in your head, what with the main character, Rae, befriending demons of all sorts, including a fairy and a vampire out to kill each other. I wish there was a prequel novel, though. I really wanted to know more about how the various demon breeds came to exist. They took over the world when the vampires went on a rampage, but they were there before that. I would have liked to have learned a story about why they were there before, and what they were doing, and a story about what happened when the vampires were rampaging.Short, and to the point, definitely geared towards a teenage audience.
