- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An enjoyable mystery along the lines of Sherlock Holmes, though Harley isn't quite as amazingly astute. I haven't read any other Paul Harley mysteries, but this one read well on it's own. He's an established private dective in London, and in this case, an old aquaintence that he met in India comes to him for help. The term Fire-Tongue comes up, as well as the name Nicol Brinn, who is an American millionaire living in London. As the case progresses Harley has little more to go on than instincts, but he ends up finding a strange cult and a lot of trouble, as well as a lovely lady. The narrator mostly follows Harley's point of view, though at times it breaks off to follow another character, and the shift in view-point keeps things fresh. The beginning of the story is a little slow and now and then I felt that there was too much back story. But the ending picks up the pace very quickly, and there was enough action to keep me guessing what would happen next. If I came across any more Paul Harley books I would certainly read them.
