On a Saturday morning, just one week before Christmas, Adam and Elizabeth could hardly contain their excitement about the holiday. The last week was always a difficult one, as they wondered what gifts they would receive on Christmas Day. Being typical siblings, they sat on the sofa keeping a safe
distance while they watched A Christmas Story. Elizabeth spoke first.
What do you think, Adam? Did Mom and Dad get us the things we asked for?
I dunno,
said Adam. What I do know is, Mom’s gone to the grocery. Plus, Dad’s got his hands full shoveling that snow from last night. You know what a fanatic he is about shoveling, not only our sidewalks, but for anyone else on the block who needs it. That means we’ve got some time to look around,
he said with a twinkle in his eye.
You’re right,
exclaimed Elizabeth. She shook her long blond hair over her shoulders and pulled it into a ponytail, using a schrunchy to hold it tight. We oughta go check the closets and see what we can find.
