About this ebook

I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I have writing it. I have always loved this gallant and liberated Superstar of the 20's and 30's movies. She seemed to have so much to offer in her life and yet, she tragically went to her death at such a young age. I imagine in my own selfish way ... I wished Carole had changed her mind when asked to give up her seats to the military pilots when her plane stopped in Albuquerque for refuel.
In my story you will read about Flight Attendant, Skye Lombardi, who encounters the spirit of actress Carole Lombard during her mountain climb to where Carole's plane crashed in January 1942. Carole's spirit decided to stay behind after the fatal crash of TWA Flight #3. Carole became very fond of Skye and saved Skye's life from a Serial Killer. Carole was becoming very restless staying on the mountain peak and she wanted to correct her mistake and leave Flight #3 when the plane stopped for refuel in Albuquerque, NM. Carole decides it is time for her to make her journey back in time and wanted Skye to travel with her through a "Time Paradox" and travel back to the late afternoon of January 16, 1942 and have Skye talk to Lombard party and try to persuade them to get off the plane. Does Skye and Carole's plan succeed or does it take a "Flip of a Coin" to determine their destiny?

It was June 2, 2005 and Skye was getting ready for her weekend get away to Fort Wayne, Indiana and was listening to a radio talk show. The announcer on the radio suddenly announced, The temperature was 80 degrees and it was only 9:00AM in Petersburg, Ohio. Yep, Skye said to herself, it’s going to be another hot day in Petersburg according to the weatherman, so what’s new?

Skye Lombardi was originally from Arizona. Born in Phoenix and grew up Tempe. As a young teen she had dreams of becoming an airline attendant after her graduation from High School. In Tempe she moved with her parents when she was only 8 years old into a house that her dad had built. Before that and before she was born, her parents had lived in a small house in Tempe. After Skye graduated from High School in 1997, Skye put in for her career opportunities with different airlines. Skye had several interviews with different airlines; but finally, she was hired by Blossom Airlines in 98’. Blossom was a new company and was just starting up their aviation business, but their flying Services was only in the Midwest and the Eastern States area. This meant that Skye would have to leave her home and parents and move back east. She liked Ohio, because her grandparents were from there. She used to spend her summer vacations visiting them. She found Petersburg, Ohio a nice town to settle into. It was in central Ohio and the winters were not that harsh. Her parents sold their house in Tempe and moved to Georgia. Her dad had been offered a different kind of job in Georgia. In Tempe he had worked for the same company for over 25 years. Sometime after her move to Ohio, her parents both passed away thus leaving her all alone.

Skye became an avid fan of Carole Lombard and wanted to see for herself where her favorite movie star was born and had lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She had a weekend coming up where she was off work so she decided she was going to Fort Wayne to see Carole‘s childhood home for herself. In fact she was told by others she (Skye) bore a striking resemblance to that of Carole. She had wanted to visit Carole’s home for several years. Now it was opened to the public. It had become a Bed and Breakfast Inn. Skye found she could not get a reservation to stay there for the weekend coming up, but maybe someday she could.

    Chapter 2

Carole Lombard was born with the name of Jane Alice Peters in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Charles Frederic Peters. She was born at their home on Rock Hill Drive on October 6, 1908. She had two brothers by the name of Stuart and Frederic. Carole’s father while working had an accident involving a bad head injury. This caused him to have mental behavior problems and to have seizures. Sometimes he would become violent during his illnesses. Carole’s mother become afraid of Charles and was afraid for the safety of her three children. Elizabeth decided to move and took the children with her to California in 1914, thus leaving Mr. Peters behind. Mr. Peters finally passed away in 1935 in Fort Wayne. Carole did not attend his funeral services, nor did she ever return to her childhood home again. The home after the Peters moved out has had a few different owners over the years. Around the year 2000, it was finally bought by a couple who turned it into a Bed and Breakfast Inn.

    Chapter 3

Skye had made reservations at one of Fort Wayne’s finest hotels. Her plans were to make the most of it. She had everything ready to go including her GPS and her cell phone. She found she couldn’t go anywhere without either one of them.

She grabbed her back pack, duffle bag and hopped into her convertible and took off. She had a long ride, but she was looking forward to it. Later, as she neared Fort Wayne, she became hungry and saw a 50’s 60’s looking Drive-In with female waitresses delivering food to the cars while on their roller skates. She thought … how retro. She pulled into the Drive-In and ordered her meal. She sat inside her convertible with the top down and enjoying a hot dog, fries, and a root beer, while listening to the restaurant’s Doo Wop music. As she ate she thought she hadn’t had a combo like this in years. This whole atmosphere made Skye feel as though she had gone back in Time and made her feel this whole trip was going to be wonderful. She would have to remember this place and to stop here on her way back home.

Skye arrived at her hotel in time for her to check in and to go over some material she found in the lobby. She found the location of the Bed and Breakfast from a broacher. After settling into her suite, Skye took off for Carole’s home. She set the address on her Garmin. She didn’t think it would be too far from the hotel. Thanks to the GPS Skye found Carole’s home with no problem. She thought the home looked just gorgeous from the outside. Skye was anxious to see the inside of the home. When she entered Skye was greeted by the owners of the home. She found them very nice and pleasant. Skye ventured over to the living room of the home where there was a big fireplace with beautiful pictures of Carole on top of the mantel. She noticed a tall good looking man standing next to her looking at them also. He had blue eyes, black hair and a mustache. Skye looked over at him and said, Hi. She then introduced herself to him. He said, Hi Skye … I’m Adam Andrews … nice to meet you.

Unknown to Skye, she was standing next to a 35 year old serial Killer who preyed on women, just like herself. He hated women; because in his eyes after he has had a sexual encounter with any of them, they would laugh at him because of his impotence. After his sexual in counters, he would beat them up, rob them, and kill them depending on how they reacted to his problem. After he killed them, he would tie them up in ropes and put weights around their ankles and throw them in the Ohio River. There has never been a cadaver surface yet from the river from his killings.

    Chapter 4

Adam lived with his mother Roma in a small older house in Petersburg, Ohio. After his father passed away when Adam was only ten, Adam became a problem child and was kicked out of school numerous times. He never did finish high school. Adam could never hold onto a job because of his mental behavior and instability. He mainly lived off his mother and the women he killed and robbed. His mother had no idea about Adam’s criminal behavior. He kept it well hidden from her. The perfect gentlemen … he was, Roma thought, and Adam wouldn’t harm a fly … He was a good boy … He would never do anything to hurt anyone. Adam also had an obsession with Double Up Peak just outside of Las Vegas NV. He had made several trips to Double Up Peak to visit Lombard’s crash site, where he would find things of value and to lure the women who had laughed at him. He would get them to climb up the mountain with him to visit the crash site while all at their own fatal expense. When the victim reached a 30 foot drop off on top of the peak, he would rob them and kill them. Most of the women he preferred were single and were die hard Carole Lombard fans. He would find most of his victims touring her home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, or by visiting local County Fairs that advertised exhibits of Carole Lombard memorabilia or maybe in theaters that were showing Lombard movies.

    Chapter 5

Adam and Skye stood by the mantle admiring the pictures of Carole. They toured every room inside her home, including her childhood bedroom. Later, Adam told Skye he had made several visits to the crash site at Double Up Peak. He had bragged to her about his many visits to the mountain and of the tons of plane wreckage he had brought back with him. He promised Skye he would send her a piece of the plane wreckage. He stated he had taken multiple pieces of the wreckage during his many visits. He told Skye he was going back to the mountain in a couple of months and maybe she would like to join him on the trip. Adam also told her, he had collected over 100 photos of Carole over several years and had also purchased costumes that Carole had worn in some of her movies. In reality, Adam never owned any costumes or any photos of Lombard. Adam didn’t know what he was coming up against, until he met Skye. Skye would change his life forever.

Adam was smitten by Skye from the first moment he laid eyes on her. Skye looked like Carole’s twin sister, Adam thought to himself. The resemblance was amazing. Skye and Adam seemed to hit it right off … right away. They stayed a while and visited with the owners of Carole‘s house. The next day Skye and Adam took a ride around Carole’s birth town and shopped in the stores down town. They had a romantic dinner together later that evening. Oh, how Skye loved Fort Wayne. She loved older cities like this one. Especially, the cities that did not change too much over the decades.

    Chapter 6

On the last evening of their stay, Skye called Adam’s hotel room and asked him if he would like to spend the evening with her, at her hotel. It had been a difficult room to get a reservation for, since it was suite. Adam took up the invitation and was happy to be invited over to spend the evening with Skye.

He brought along with him a couple of gifts for Skye; that he had bought them for her, while they were shopping in town. He also had picked up a bottle of champagne and purchased two glasses for their drinks. When Skye answered the door, he gave her the gifts. Here Skye, these are for you! Adam said romantically. Skye told him, You shouldn’t have Adam. I feel so bad now, because I don’t have anything for you. He thought … you could repay him later that night. Next, he handed her a nice gift bag. She slowly opened the bag and inside she found a small white lace corset and white lace panties along with a large bottle of cologne. Try them on Skye, Adam said. She felt a little embarrassed and felt awkward, but she went to the bathroom and did what he requested. She put on the outfit and found they fit her just perfectly. She then shyly returned to the bedroom to model her presents for him.

Adam thought Skye looked very beautiful. Her skin looked silky smooth and flawless. He grabbed the bottle of Champagne and opened it up. He poured some into the two glasses … one for her and one for himself. They made a toast to Carole, who made this all possible.

After a couple of drinks, Adam wanted to go a step further with Skye. He coaxed her to lie down beside him on the rug in front of the warm fireplace. He ran his fingers through her beautiful long blonde hair and all over her body. He kissed and caressed her. He told Skye how beautiful she was and he would like to make love to her. He hugged and caressed her warm body. She proceeded to undress him, while caressing and kissing him all over … but she noticed he was not getting excited. He appeared to be trying to but couldn’t. He picked Skye up and laid her on the bed. He then got on top of her and made several quick and rough thrusts, while trying to make himself excited. Skye started to feel the pain in her hips and in her pelvis area from the rough play Adam was performing. This caused her to cry out in pain and Adam immediately thought she was laughing at him.

Oh no!, this can’t be happening --- again to me! Adam said out loud. Damn, you are laughing at me, Adam continued. Skye told Adam, she was not laughing at him, but he was hurting her and he must be imagining things. Skye became scared as Adam became more and more neurotic and more unreasonable. He said to her, you are like all the others. Skye asked Adam, What do you mean by that … you are like all the others? Adam said You are just like all the other bitches … they all laughed at me too … just as you are doing now. I saw you and I heard you Skye … You have no respect for me. Skye replied, I didn’t laugh at you Adam … I swear I didn’t … You seem to have a big problem, but we can work it out. Adam quickly said, Shut up Bitch! Without any warning, Adam quickly slapped Skye across her face so hard it caused her teeth to rattle. Skye hollered at Adam, get the hell out of here … right now, before I call the cops … leave now! Adam told Skye, I’ll leave, but not just yet. Adam left Skye’s room and went over to a table and took his arm and with one sweep knocked everything off the table and onto the floor, thus breaking the champagne bottle and everything else that was lying on the table. Adam then turned around and looked at her and said, This is what happens when bitches like you make me angry … You should not be laughing at men who have sexually dysfunctions … and here I thought you were a kind, gentle woman, and different from all the other bitches, that I have gone out with. Skye started for the phone to call for help, but Adam went after her and grabbed it out of her hand. He very calmly asked Skye … Now, let me ask you … why would you want to go and do a stupid thing like that … for? Without warning, Adam hauled off and hit Skye in the face again with his fist and knocking her to the floor. When she started to get up, he pulled her legs out from underneath her and knocked her down again. He climbed back on top of her and started to choke her. Skye knew that there was a book on the coffee table, so she grab it and was going to hit him over the head with it … but he blocked her and knocked the book out of her hand. Adam then started to hit himself in the head with the book. Skye quickly kneed him in the groin. He quickly got off of her and doubled up in pain. Skye got up and headed for the bathroom. She quickly shut the door and locked it. She then quickly put a bathroom chair under the door knob. She grabbed her bathrobe and put it on. She saw her cell phone lying on the sink and dialed 911. She explained the situation to the dispatcher and gave all the other pertinent information they asked for. The dispatcher said help would be sent out immediately. Soon after Skye ended the call, Adam began pounding and kicking at the bathroom door. He was like the devil himself … she thought. There was no stopping this crazy man. Skye noticed a window in the bathroom where she might be
