This is a commentary that comments on the Acts of the Apostles using the divisions of the Revised Common Lectionary. The most distinctive feature of this commentary is the discussion of parallels passages from Luke and how they are developed in Acts. Unfortunately, this commentary is consistently not very helpful in doing what a biblical commentary should always do: help readers to understand the different interpretive options and resolve exegetical difficulties.

I also find the preaching suggestions rather meaningless. They are consistently of the variety, you could use passage x to preach about y ... This frustrating because I don't need a commentary to tell me the obvious. This is why preachers turn to commentaries, for help with interpreting passage x to preach about y, and Allen consistently fails to provide any real help here.

Both in e-book format and in print, there are simply much better commentaries that do everything Allen tries to do in this commentary. I recommend giving it a pass.
