This is for everyone out there who desires a taste for true love.

    Chapter One

Life is a strange and unpredictable creature. Full of twists, turns, shocks and revelations, Helen Boyd decided while she ran her laps on the treadmill at the gym.

She had a life, but not the one she’d envisioned for herself as a young woman—a life with loving children, a devoted husband and old friends to lean on when times got hard. No, things definitely had turned out a lot different and a lot harder.

She had endured, persevered and in some ways could even be considered a success story.

Helen didn’t always see it that way, however, and as she thought back on the years of her life, some of those years had been downright horrible.

She glanced down at the timer and noticed she was entering the cool down phase of her eight mile run. As her stride eased into a trot, then a fast walk and finally a lazy stroll, she found herself looking back on the day that had changed her life forever.

"Damn, Helen! You’re pregnant again! her husband, Justin Boyd, shouted at her. We used protection. Every time I turn around, we’re having another pregnancy scare. I’m sick of this shit. I told you I didn’t want a bunch of kids."

"I. Am. Not. Making these babies by myself, Justin, she shouted back. And since when don’t you want kids? We both have always wanted kids. So why all of sudden is one son and me being pregnant with another child a bunch of kids?"

He paced frantically back in forth in their bedroom. "Since I can’t breathe anymore. I feel like the walls are closing in on me. It seems all I do is work, and I don’t see shit to show for it. We never have any money. We never can just go out and have a good time. It’s as if we don’t exist anymore since we started having these kids."

Her eyes bulged as he stormed to the closet and pulled out a suitcase and started packing. So this is how you handle the setbacks, Justin? You fucking run away!

He turned on her and pushed her on the bed. Looming over her, he said, "No, I’m not running away from anything. I’m running to anything. I want a life, Helen. Not when I’m sixty-five and too beat down to enjoy it. I want out. I want my freedom back. I want my life back."

A blinding rage surged her off the bed and she slapped him. You selfish muthafucka! Do you think this is the life I wanted? Do you think dropping out of college to follow your dreams is what I wanted for myself? I loved you enough to believe in your goddamn dreams even when you didn’t. I loved you enough to work two jobs during my first pregnancy to give you the chance to finish your education in order to make a better way for us. I gave up everything I wanted because I believed in us!

As he turned his back on her and retreated from their bedroom with his packed case, he said, Like I said, I want my life back. And you and these kids ain’t the life I want.
