Homeschooling Your Child
The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.
~ Robert Maynard Hutchins ~

We must prepare our children with the knowledge and skills to thrive in a complex and ever changing world. Modern times call for sophisticated learners. These children are the new and upcoming group of elite learners, known as the sophisticates. The group craves to be intellectually and creatively challenged. They are groomed to rise to the occasion and work exceedingly well under pressure. The key to their success is the enthusiastic guidance of their parents or chosen educator. We, the caring and involved, must hop on board our child’s promising future and go, go, go!
Acquiring knowledge starts young and is universal in nature. The territories explored are vast and wide. They center on people, places and things. The how, when, where, and why are all within reach, but must be ignited through desire and determination. Most importantly, knowledge derives from one’s education and the ability to master retention. Finding the right approach can lead to infinite discovery.
Homeschooling is the modern day alternative to childhood education. It defines the act of teaching one’s child in the comfort of one’s own home. We, as parents, can take this revolutionary approach to schooling and stimulate our child’s thirst for knowledge. Together, we can travel to depths beyond our wildest imaginations and unleash an unstoppable flow of positive energy. Energy that promotes curiosity, creativity and confidence.
Homeschooling is a concept acceptable by law in most countries and replaces the more formal setting of a public or private school. It provides a familiar environment conducive to a family’s personal needs or particular preferences. A flexible schedule can be devised to accommodate change on a moment’s notice. Lunch or snack can be taken at the kitchen table, outside on the patio, or at the local park on a lovely, sunny day. The daily menu can provide for a healthy diet and restrictions can be weighed accordingly. Children can help in the daily planning of the meals. They can be encouraged to create mini culinary delights to their likings. Bathroom breaks are a quick skip and jump away. Recess can be enjoyed in the comfort of the family’s home environment or at an outdoor setting. Physical Education activities such as kickball, basketball, baseball, relay races, or other structured games can be played where space is available.
Sadly, a parent’s desire for homeschooling is often fueled by a declining public opinion of the traditional school’s ability to provide learners with a quality education and a private school’s high cost of tuition. Mediocre, shouldn’t be a word used to express the educational level of a student enrolled in a 21st century classroom. Often, a parent wonders if their child is being properly educated. Is the teacher qualified and are they encouraging students to excel in their studies?
Decreased funding, larger class sizes, insufficient teacher to student ratio, and lower standards, question a quality education versus a poor one. On a more positive note, homeschooling is a wonderful option for those living at a distance from school or those residing temporarily abroad. It allows the
