About this ebook

If you've ever been curious about what it would be like if the television shows "Glee" and "Breaking Bad" had a baby, "A Cappella Drug Lord" is for you.

Tobey is a middle class kid from rural Illinois who arrives at Yale with hopes of joining the premiere a cappella group, the Lords. Getting into the group means a life of privilege and power. Little does he know that unbeknownst to them, the group is about to become cocaine mules for the Colombian drug trade putting all of their futures at risk.

A serial novel told from multiple viewpoints, the first season of "A Cappella Drug Lord" will take you on a fast-paced journey from the Ivy League to the coca farms of Colombia and show you what happens when two very different worlds collide.

Episode 2 - Destined for Greatness

    Tobey

    Yale University

    New Haven, Connecticut

It was nearly 2 p.m., and Tobey could still not bring himself to get out of bed. Last night had been incredible. It had also been long. At 2 a.m., just as he was getting ready to go to sleep, he had received a knock on the door. It was Charlie, accompanied by a whole swarm of Lords. They sang to him and then pulled him out into the Old Campus for a night of festivities. At 9 a.m., after getting breakfast in Branford, he had stumbled back into his room and fallen straight to sleep. His overwhelming exhaustion, however, could not hold back his profound sense of excitement; he was a Lord.

It had been two grueling weeks of auditions and social obligations. Tobey had spent nearly every meal meeting with members of various a cappella groups. Several mornings, he would even get two breakfasts, first meeting up with the Squealing Pigs at Davenport and then rushing over to Siliman to mingle with the Lords. By Wednesday, he had a good sense that things were going well. Although he had messed up his audition for the Sparkledinks with a complete miss on the sight-reading, he nailed his auditions for both the Lords and the Squealing Pigs. He had received word that he would be invited for a callback for both of those two groups.

Everett had fared similarly well. Given his connections within all of the elite groups, Everett had maintained that he wasn’t even asked to do sight-reading for anyone. The world really was unfair. Everett had received callbacks for all three groups, but like Tobey, he knew which one was his true first choice; no doubt, if given the option, he would pick the Lords. Despite the fact that he had grown up listening to Sparkledinks CDs with his father, Everett wanted to have his own experience at Yale and said that being in the Lords would make him feel more independent. Of course, it also didn’t hurt that musically, there was no doubt in his mind that the Lords were the best.

The weekend was filled with grueling auditions followed by drunken parties, and by Monday, Tobey had basically been told he would be getting into both groups. He felt bad turning the Squealing Pigs down - they were all nice guys, and he had a lot of fun hanging out with them. But of course, he knew he needed to
