She has taught reading and library skills at the elementary level, as well as writing classes at the college level. She has also published stories and magazine articles for children and short stories for adults. Kate was awarded a Michigan Council for the Arts Grant for fiction. She has a bachelor of arts degree in English from Hope College. Currently, Kate lives in Michigan with her husband, Don.
