Strange lower lip growths

Q I encountered this muntjac on unmanaged public access land and wondered if any of your contributors might be able to suggest the cause of the two growths on its lower jaw?

A There are a number of possibilities to think about here when considering what might be wrong: disease, or the outcome and progression of a traumatic injury. The muntjac doe looks to be an adult, and apart from the obvious facial issues I was struck by the animal’s overall appearance. Initially, I thought its coat looked a bit harsh and thick given the time of the year, and in one photo it presents as unduly thin and so is showing signs of being low in condition.
