Chapter 1
My phone is ringing.
I open one eye and, without even moving an inch, peek out the window. The sun isn’t even up yet and my phone is ringing. Loudly. And is it me or is that the most annoying ringtone ever? Ugh.
I grope blindly for my Teddy bear, Benny, then pull him over my exposed ear to block out the sound. Now isn’t it just my luck that Benny and his giant belly full of stuffing are of absolutely no help to me. Great. I throw his useless behind across the room and substitute with a pillow instead.
Groaning pitifully, I grab my phone from my bedside table and start pressing buttons at random until one of them finally shuts the blasted thing up. Of course now it’s making little chipmunk sounds which means that I answered the call instead of hanging up. And at…4:30 in the morning I at least have enough manners not to hang up on them now.
I lay the phone over my ear and mutter a greeting to whoever it is on the line, which ends up sounding less like a greeting and more like Nhmmmmm?
Well Good morning to you too, Miss Honey. Were we still asleep?
The sound of his voice hits me right in the gut, rising a dozen butterflies and making me sit up in bed so fast that I probably look like a freakin’ jack-in-the-box. I turn the phone away from my face for a minute to clear my throat discretely.
Umm, no sweetie of course I wasn’t still asleep.
Because who would be sleeping at 4:35 on a Saturday morning, right? Not me obviously. I was just err… doing some stretches. You know, a bit of a morning warm up to start the day off right.
He chuckles at that. If you ask me, it sounds as good as melting chocolate. And know he’s laughing at me because neither of us actually believes what I just said but damn who knew being laughed at could make a girl feel so good? Control yourself, Honey, or he’s going to hear just how good you’re feeling right through the phone.
But yeah.. I’m all finished now. I was about to go freshen up.
Good. I’d hate to think that I was interrupting anything,
he says playing along with my ridiculous lie. Did I mention, by the way, that he has a sexy Caribbean accent, the sound of which is pulling the nerves in my stomach so tight that it’s becoming hard for me to breathe? Because he does. And it is. Like really hard to breathe here.
"I was just wondering if you’d like to watch the sun rise
