After facing the embodiment of death this should be easy right? Only underwater folklore, sea creatures, and the history of the lost city of Atlantis stand between them and the next piece of the Artifact.

What new inventions will Dr. Kilgen pull from the rhythms of the underwater realms? What allies will The Select find? What new enemies will they make? Can the additions to their team help them through their unimaginable new challenges?

We at the Purple Otter Syndicate want to welcome you the first Season of The Dirge... As Dr. Kilgen and the group are setting out on an adventure to save the Dwarven race using their steam powered machines want you to understand this is a fictional book. The way they apply real world elements could be dangerous if attempted in our world. Be a smart Otter and ask an adult before trying any of Dr. Kilgen's ideas.

    Introduction

Sean that journal is going to get you kill... Beatrice started, as she stuck her head in the hospital wing turned library.

Or worse everyone else killed! Callum cut her off. Every time something important is happening you run off to put it in that thing!

Enough Callum. Sean we need to get off the Didgeri Dirge. Beatrice grabbed Sean and pulled him out of the room."

Is this the way we're always going to start a new quest? Sean asked as he followed the other two Dwarves to the main deck.

That depends on who we're visiting I guess. Callum replied.

    What?

When you went down to update your journal several of the Merfolk came to the surface and said King Moonlief and Queen Uslanzar have requested our presence in their meeting hall. Beatrice explained.

So at least this time we're not fleeing for our lives. Sean gaped as they rounded the corner and saw how close they were to the giant blue bubble. It was taller than five of their ships, stem to stern and appeared to be at least ten wide.

That remains to be seen. It's not like these suits have been tested. Clang said as they approached.

What are you talkin' about, Sean spent an hour submerged in our water tank. Dr. Kilgen said.

Pa. Xavier added. The purple otter looked crazy today with orange framed, mirrored sunglasses, sitting on Dr. Kilgen's shoulder.

And while I did appreciate the testing procedure, next time a good rinse off before he gets in our drinking water would be appreciated. Beatrice snarked.

Ya ya. But at least we know the Sea Snails will keep us alive underwater. Dr. Kilgen said helping Sean into his suit, a stainless steel monster that looked like a silver snail with the addition of legs. The creature's shell was made of three separate tanks that were melded together with spiraling hoses.

I get that but what are in those tanks? Clang asked.

One of them you really don't want to know, trust me I saw him fill it. Sean said.

Oh stop being squeamish the ammonia is a vital step in scrubbing the carbon dioxide into breathable oxygen. The other tank is the power generation the last is the veracious algae. Simple. Dr. Kilgen said. Now get dressed.

Why did you have to mess with my Satyr? Callum complained.

It will all come off later, for now we didn't have enough metal on the ship to make enough suits. So I modified the bear and the Satyr. Beatrice said.

This was still the first month that the Dirge Select had been on the quest for the Arctic Fiery Rose, yet the challenges they faced on the Isle of Deeds including the increase in their number forced them to trust in each other and behave as a seasoned unit.

Let me give you a brief overview of the snails, you have room to put your hands into and out of the unit through the glove holes. That way you can operate your Exo Ocular Device if you need to. The steering is actually accomplished with slight movements of your body, as you lean so will you go, there are four separate propulsion units. If you are on solid ground the propulsion units will retract and small wheels will extend helping you to move forward. Beatrice said giving some visual indications leaning forward and making her unit roll.

    Most interesting. Clang said.

The face-guard will open and close with the latch inside. It has a pressure sensor that won't allow an accidental opening under water, however, that can be forced open as an emergency escape. If you do force that, you'll be jettisoned to the surface. Beatrice finished her explanation.

I would suggest you not play with that. Dr. Kilgen said.

Oh, and there is a storage compartment right here. Beatrice demonstrated opening and closing the small door.

It gives you somewhere to store things but you can't bring it inside with you. Dr. Kilgen added.

I'm in... Adelon said as she jumped overboard in her newly donned Sea Snail.

I don't think we've tested twenty foot drops into the water, have we? Sean asked.

Just did. Dr. Kilgen said looking over at the tin and copper colored Snail swimming away. Looks like we're ok.

I think I'll still take the platform down. Beatrice lowered the rail
