They Won't Stop TOO - Stephen Odaire
Chapter 1.
FUCK IT! With Reggie and Tom chasing behind me, I don't’ know which way to go right now. First of all I don’t know where I am and second of all I have to lose these two idiots who are trying to kill/kidnap/rape me and on top of that, the least thing I want to do is lead them in the direction of either my dad or Chris. I turn my phone on to use the gps and figure out where the hell I am! Chris, my boyfriend, is probably worried sick about me! My phone is fully charged thanks to Tom or whoever the hell put it on the charger back at the warehouse. Damn..the warehouse. I still can’t believe I snapped like that and just massacred all those people. Especially since they were only trying to help me. Am I a psycho? Crazy? Am I turning into something worse? Something much worse than these living zombies?
I stop and look back, think I lost them. It feels like I've been running for hours now. I stop for only a moment to put on my clothes and look at my phone. But before I get a chance to even look at the damn screen, I hear someone talking in the distance.
Fuck! Where the hell is she man!?
Reggie whispers.
I dunno. I think she went this way, come on!
Tom replies back.
Shit! No time to look at my phone. I gotta keep moving. I have to keep moving forward, it’s the only way I know for sure that i’ll stay ahead of them. I run for a few more minutes. I've always been a great distance runner. Something my dad wanted me to participate in at school. Guess that’s another thing that’s helped me thus far.
GRAAAAWWWWWWW!
I hear a groan in the distance.
Here ‘they’ come. Dammit, I’m tired as hell! I slow down from jogging to a brisk walk as I survey the area and catch my breath. Have they evolved? I didn't make a sound as I walk down this dark, cold, street. Could they smell my sweat? My clothes are soaked with sweat from earlier, but now the sun has set and the cold air of the night causes me to shiver. I have to find some kind of shelter soon or I’ll die of hypothermia before ‘they’ even get me.
Dried blood covers the sidewalk and parked cars. Broken glass and debris are spread out over the road as I tiptoe my way around anything that can make noise. I do my best to control my breathing but as seven of them exit a house to my right, I tense up. I think about everything and everyone that I've already lost. I miss my mom so much right now, I miss my Chris, and most of all my father. If he was here he would know exactly what to do. Fuck! I just realized, I’m out in the open. I have to find cover now. I duck behind a shitty beat up car, which is parked directly in front of the pack.
They walk down the front steps of the house sniffing and looking around. Fuck I really think they can smell my sweat. Don’t get me wrong I don’t stink, but I’m still only human. I take a deep breath and close my eyes, as I duck and hide behind the front driver side tire of the car. Maybe if
