Introduction
This creativity course
contains three sessions or chapters. It will take you less than an hour to read each of the three. However, I encourage you to take time to reflect on your reading and complete the creative activities that appeal to you.
Find a relaxing place where you won’t be distracted or interrupted, and enjoy the creative process. There will be some overlap in topics to reinforce principles. You may be able to complete all three sessions in one creative period, or you might want to do a session a day for three days, or even a session a week. It’s totally up to you.
You will benefit from doing the activities. Although you may not need a second set of eyes on your creative work, feedback is available. If interested, just email me and I’ll let you know the procedure and cost.

First Session: Discover and Liberate Your Creative Self
Is your inner child trying to get out and create?
Close your eyes for just a few moments and recall one or two highlights of your childhood—perhaps a moment of great happiness or discovery or insight. Feel again your emotions. Experience your senses. Be that child…
…And recall the spontaneity of that time. Remember all the fun you had?
Writing should be fun!
Let’s have fun
While on the playground or in the park, you were completely involved in the moment. Your imagination ran wild. You were free to accept new possibilities beyond the ordinary and beyond the conventional.
You were open, relaxed, and playful. And that’s how writing should be, at least most of the time.
Studies demonstrate that you are most creative when you are less purposeful, and when you are open, relaxed, and playful. Writing is a little like playing pretend.
In fact, your creativity—to some degree—corresponds to your ability to play.
You might wonder if I am referring to the right hemisphere of the brain—you know, the creative, intuitive side of the brain. I am in part, but I’m also referring to your inner creative self—the heart.
