Part One

There are many kinds of ghosts...

IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME, Mike chirped, flinging clothes out of his closet — glittering pants, shirts with band logos, tights.

Ella lingered at the door, half-hidden behind the frame, watching the scene.

A certain elf stood behind Mike, arms folded over his chest, eyes narrowed. I don’t see why...

Fun, my man. Huge fun. You’ll love it.

Finn grunted and ducked to avoid a boot flying at him. It landed with a thump on the floor. Fun, he repeated.

What are you up to, Mike? Ella tsked. Then grinned when Mike jumped about three feet in the air.

Finn merely slanted a look at her. He’d heard her approach. Figured.

What the hell, girl! Mike pressed a hand to his heart, his eyes wide. Give a man a heart-attack first thing in the morning, will ya?

It’s midday, Ella muttered, wandering into the room.

It’s Sunday, he countered, and mornings come later on Sundays. He sighed. "It’s Halloween. In a few days’ time! We’re so unprepared."

You want to go to a party?

We all go. Two couples. Mike gestured at his closet. "I’ve got plenty of fun clothes
