About this ebook

This book is a brief look into the world of Terry Everitt as a Wildlife Artist - or "Bird Carver" as he'd rather be known. It describes the strong feelings he has about both the good and the bad of inheriting a talent and how it's affected his life over the last 40 years or so. It traces the path from his earlier years drawing and painting birds, then changing his tools and medium to reach where he is today as a carver.

Terry briefly covers the evolution he went through with variations in the design of his unique "Naturebox" before specialising in the product that he crafts nowadays. He includes a short, but nevertheless, easy to follow "work in progress" piece which details the process of carving birds from wood.

If you are an experienced wildlife wood carver already or have always hankered over picking up some sharp instruments, Terry’s book will inspire you. It's a great hobby to have.

A Bird in the Hand - Terry Everitt

    About the author

My name is Terry Everitt and I was born in 1953 in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, which is where I lived until 1989 when I moved to Norfolk. I Have two daughters, Donna and Gemma, who live in Hertfordshire with my three beautiful grand children - Ruben, Edith and Niamh.

I left school in 1968 without any qualifications and entered an apprenticeship in the printing trade, which I never completed. (There's a theme going on here). During my working life I've worked in countless industries going from one job to the next, never staying very long in any of them.

During what I call my testing the market phase, I have dabbled with the arts, drawing, painting etc, but never really started to get a bit more serious about it until the late 80s. From then on, the love of the arts became more and more obsessive.

The last 15 years or so I've worked as a painter and decorator, a job I really enjoyed. And in some ways I suppose it's art related and as close as I've been to doing what I really love as a full time job.

    Until now!

As I write this article I have a date - 24th September 2012 - which is the official start up date for my new venture. And what an adventure this could be!

My other interests outside of work are a bit of weight training and closest to my heart, bird watching in the local countryside and fishing. This is why living about 30 metres from the river Waveney in Beccles, Suffolk is the ideal place to live.

My hopes and aspirations for the future are to survive and be self sufficient from producing my unique pieces of wildlife art
