    DEDICATION

I wish to express my gratitude to the following:

The educational system. As a substitute teacher and Poet Laureate, I was given the opportunity to teach poetry and read my poems to different age levels and different audiences.

Mrs. Loffredo, English teacher, at Palombi School in Lake Villa, Illinois, for her inspiration.

Mrs. Noble, and Mrs. Ricker, literature and poetry teachers at Waukegan High School, for their inspiration.

Mr. James Neel, who has toured twenty-two foreign places, venturing on anthropological-archaeological tours of Mexico in 1965, and Columbia and Venezuela tours in 1972. He is currently writing a book on his adventures. I thank him for his erudite comments.

Lastly, I appreciate my next door neighbor, Darwin Beyer, for sharing his love of nature with me.

    ESSENCES III

    by Kenneth Webb

    THE UNIVERSE

There is a dream dreaming us.

    A Kalahari Bushman

That we come to the earth to live is untrue.

We come but to sleep, to dream.

    Aztec Poem, Anonymous

We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.

    Shakespeare, The Tempest

    MESSAGE FROM GOD

    If humankind could actually see

    The ultimate sources,

    Which initiate Celestial things;

    Mankind would be like me,

And always observe the absolute supreme.

Humankind would not have any dreams,

Which are part of my wonderful schemes.

    Where would mankind explore next?

There would be nowhere to go.

    Everything would be regular routine,

And there wouldn't be a Celestial show.
