About this ebook

THE sequel to 'Disastrous' titled 'Cautious' is now available. 'Cautious' is the second and final book to the Disastrous series.

After struggling with the loss of yet another person so dear to her heart, Mia Sullivan channeled her frustration and loneliness into focusing on her future career. At the top of her class at Harvard Law, she was nervous and excited when given the opportunity to work as a summer extern at one of the top firms in Boston. Her new boss was the young, extraordinarily handsome, and successful Marcus DeLuca. As she falls for his charms, she discovers he is keeping something from her.

Marcus DeLuca was living two separate lives: one that involved his successful career and the other that could potentially ruin his entire reputation. His secret could jeopardize not only his life but everyone he loves. There was no room in his life for a serious romantic relationship, but after meeting Mia, he makes room. He cannot resist her. She is innocent, humble, and pure--the total opposite of him. She distracts him from all of his deep dark secrets. He knows once Mia finds out the things he has done and who he truly is, she will never want to look at him again. Deep down he knows he must stay away, but he can't.

Mia and Marcus are heading down a path of love, lies, heartbreak, and betrayal. Can their love conquer all, or will the web of deceit be too much to overcome?

It's been a while since I gave 4 stars rate to a book I read. I am extremely pleased to be able to hear bout this book and read it! I love the flow of the writing, the characters are descriptive and more in a 'grey' side. I don't usually read a book where romance mixed with suspense (a bit thriller) cos I don't need to feel hurt or stressful more than I face in the real life itself. But the writer, EL Montes, able to write all of those elements smoothly and give us exposure of the back stories bits by bits without being too radically explicit. Just one thing left me in a haze, I thought Mia was working with Marcus but during her misscariage and post runaway I felt she just walked away easily without a hint of breaking the externship or at least called the office to resign. Isolated herself from her networks besides her mom & there was never a thought in her about telling the office? And later on she just started her new day in college without questions from Prof. Johnson.. But anyways, there's no doubt in mind, I am totally gonna read the 2nd book!

I give it a strong 3.5 with love! There were many things that I liked and some that bothered me. First off, much respect to the author for releasing her first book! I am an aspiring author also so I know how much hard work, emotional investment and courage it takes to put yourself out there! It definitely felt like a first novel, though. I found myself wanting to edit a lot of it or tweak her writing up just a notch!

    Things I loved:
    - Mia's honesty and impulsiveness. She said out loud what was on my mind a lot!
    - How much Marcus loved her. He makes me melt...aaahhhh...( A good song for him, "The man who can't be moved" by The Script! LOL)
    - The plot, the secrets, the lies. It kept me interested.

    Things that bothered me:
    - There was not enough build up to them falling in love. It was all so sudden and I didn't feel that "moment". I love reaching that point in a story when I feel the characters falling in love and my heart clenches! I didn't feel that. It was like suddenly they were madly in love and you just had to believe it. Which became a little easier to do as the story went on I'll admit.
    - I also didn't feel like Mia was as in to Marcus as he was into her. Maybe Mia could have offered a little more heartfelt words to him that would convince me how much she loved him.

Overall great story just needed a little more emotional connection to really put it over the top for me! I look forward to more from E.L. Montes, I like her style!

Wow talk about Male Alpha Marcus surely has that in this book .

Mia Sullivan is in her first year of Harvard Law School and maintains a 4.0 G.P.A. During the last class of the year, she is surprised by one of her professors who submitted her name for a extern position at one the most prestigious law firms in Boston. These positions are highly coveted and only for incoming 3rd year law students, so Mia is very lucky to have this opportunity to interview.

Her roommate, Jeremy is also selected to apply for an interview and decides that they should go out and celebrate their good fortune. While there Jeremy is on the prowl and leaves Mia sitting and drinking alone at a table. However, Mia has caught the eye of Marcus DeLuca owner of the club and just so happens to be the owner of the law firm that she will be interviewing for.

Marcus was completely lovable! How can you not love a guy that says things like, "you're everything, Mia Without you, there's no reason for me." He was successful, good looking, powerful and smart. He's a family man, which gets extra points in my book. His secret life kills me! KILLS ME!!! I wanted so badly for him to be able to open up to Mia and not let his secrets get in the way of their love.

I loved Marcus' family. They were so welcoming and loving toward Mia! Considering how quickly their love came to be, I was surprised his mother was so open to it. She truly wanted her son to be happy. I even started to like his brother Jimmie toward the end. And his niece (Jimmie's daughter), Elle, was perfect! Loved her!!! I really want Mia to be able to be a part of the family. She had been through so much already, she shouldn't have to lose this family too.

there is more to this , but I don't want to spoil it all for everyone so with that I will end this review and Say I can't wait for Cautious to be released ......

    This book was heart wrenching!
So not a lot of hot steamy sex but that was ok because there was so much else going.
It was getting a bit silly with every time Marcus did something off the normal sweet path she would melt down and when Jimmie finally explain things I was sure there was no way she could not go running back to him even know the situation was heart wrenching with his "friend" and behavior he certainly had an excuse but Mia just couldn't let that go. You will have to see if they finally make their way back to each other. The ending was good but there were so many loose ends and hints of other things to come it certainly left me craving more (not sure there is a book I have read that doesn't leave me craving more!) at least Author E.L. Montes will be giving me more come May with Cautious the second book in the Disastrous series.

    Quotes:

" 'I want to date.' Marcus said. 'see where it goes. I've never dated before, and I don't know how it works, but you're the kind of girl that a man should treat like a woman, nat as a one-night stand.' "

"No one ever knows a person right away. You could be with someone for ten years and learn something new about them. People are always changing. Don't let that scare you."

"I love you, but I'm scared."

"That's what love is....it's scary not knowing what's expected, but I know it'll be the best frightening love we've ever had."

This was a cookie-cutter book up until the last quarter. It's very formulaic - in lieu of Twilight and 50SoG and similar romance novels. You even get a first chapter from Marcus's POV in the end.

Boy meets girl. Girl thinks she's nothing special. He has never loved before, but falls madly in love with her, and after three days together they are both in too deep and their love is eternal. There's a best friend that the hero is jealous of, and the heroine is jealous of all the women flocking over hero. Et cetera, et cetera.

Don't get me wrong - I did like it. I liked Mia even though she turns from this strong female character into a sad pathetic girl and generally contradicts everything she tells us about herself.
My main problem with her was - I know she's in love (as unreasonable as it may be) but I still thought she should have ran away after she learned the kind of business he was in. Then I thought it again, after she learns she is pregnant. Especially when she learns she is pregnant. I honestly don't have a maternal bone in me, but I thought she should have left him for the sake of that child involved. And because she didn't, I thought she was extremely selfish and immature - and there goes that strong female character right out the window. That is no life for a child, not if she could do something about it, and she chose not to.

Marcus is the weakest, saddest hero I have read in quite a while. For the duration of ~320 pages he is constantly whining, crying, self-pitying, apologizing, wallowing, and just generally being pathetic. Wasn't he supposed to be a capable, strong man? Certainly, with his way of life I expected a lot more backbone from him, a little more control of his feelings - and temper! Again, don't get me wrong, I understood his "situation". I ended up warming up to him but in the end I still wasn't fully convinced. While I don't mind a little bit of man-crying, after a while whenever he would cry or do the whole self-pitying thing I was rolling my eyes.

There is a plot twist you wouldn't expect. I didn't see it coming and I thought it was great and it actually made sense.

Writing wise, I'd say it was okay. Of course, it could have used some more editing, but I didn't mind so much. What I did mind was the way author just sort of told us what happened - like a recap every once in a while, instead of showing us. There was a part where Mia says that they got to know each other better (something about talking about movies, foods, hobbies, making fun of each other, sneaking a pizza into her room, etc) and I felt cheated because we didn't get to see it, she just told us about it.
Another thing I really disliked was the "mmmmh" - it's used 11 times in both dialogue and narrative, and from all three characters' POV.

I just wish the majority of the book was as the last quarter, after the breakup, when things kind of start happening and it gets interesting. I will read the sequel, because I want to know what happens next, though.
