Chapter One

It was early winter, and not a drop of snow dotted Trilling, Illinois as Emma made her way down Hoven road. The last time she had walked down Hoven road, she and David had sex on it. It has been three months since David had left, and in Emma’s search to find information about Hoven road the only thing she could find led to nothing.

The sound of someone breathing had Emma turning her head to look around. There was a man jogging behind her, she could not see his face which was half hidden beneath the hood he wore. There was a sense of danger around him, and Emma’s heart started to pound fiercely in her chest. She was two miles from her home, and as usual no cars were driving down the road. She started to walk faster, and she could hear the sound of the jogger speed up behind her. Emma walked even faster, but the jogger speed up again. She could feel the jogger’s breath on the back of her neck, and Emma started to run. She veered to her right, and ran into the forested area of the road.

The jogger followed, and she started to scream. The jogger tackled her to the ground, and Emma lashed out, pounding the back and arms of the jogger with her fists. As she hit him, his hood fell off,
