Former journalist and Grenadian-heritage Londoner Pam Williams works full time as a teacher and career leader in a special school.

‘I’m out of the house by 7.30am and back home between 5pm and 6pm so my writing time starts after having dinner with my husband,’ she says. ‘I might work from 8pm until around 11pm – or much later if the words are flowing. During school holidays, I relish having the time to write or edit all day and into the night if I choose to.
