I am a retired nurse who now enjoys writing and sharing stories. I am the mother of four grown children and the grandmother of four beautiful grandchildren with one on the way. I live in the great state of Texas and come from an all military family. I myself was in the Army years ago. I am so proud of our military and to have served. I have always loved to write but it has been many years since my pen has taken flight.I love to take an ordinary situation and turn it into a humorous piece. Many of the short articles have been taken from my own life. My family hides now when I say, "Oh I must write about that!" Where is their sense of humor? My poor husband falls victim most of the time. I also have found that after all these years I do still have an imagination, creating fictional stories that take the reader to places unknown. You may find me on Sunnies Pen to Page on Wordpress, where I introduce new writers and their work. My site, Graceful Intentions. I hope you will stop by and have look. My work is also found on Amazon, Yahoo Contributor, and Authors Den as well. Thank you for stopping by, Sunnie

    Chapter 1

    The Adoption

Oh Honey…look at him, said Beth thoughtfully, attempting to pet the cat through the cage.

Wiggling her fingers, she said, hello dear kitty.

The cat was not amused and politely turned his back to her.

Oh kitty, I did not mean to make you mad at me, giggled Beth."

The cat did a slight turn towards Beth. He looked sheepishly into Beth’s eyes and that was when it happened. They had an instant connection.

Looking back, I never dreamed that this cat would have made such a lasting impression in our lives. We wanted a pet for our son Jonah, who had been begging for a pet the longest time. Who would have thought adopting one cat would have been an international incident.

We called the cat Robin but I will explain later that his name did not do this cat justice. First, let me say I was not much of a cat person. It was my wife’s idea to go to the local shelter to adopt a cat. After much discussion, like many things, she won the battle of wills. We walked into the shelter and began to stroll down the long concrete hall, observing cages filled with cats on each side. There were so many cats, that to pick one, seemed like a ridiculous feat.

I kept thinking, Beth just pick one, they all look the same to me.

Of course, nothing is ever that simple with Beth. She had to look in each cage, examining their behavior, their
