Although he really enjoyed the last chapter with the Russian ballet dancer, I think my son's interest in this series is flagging. This works for me as I'm ready for a break anyway. We've read so much Paddington lately, I'm starting to dislike marmalade, and I've never even had it before.

With only three books to go (including this one) until I have read all the Paddington books available, I read this one very slowly savouring it and enjoying it as much as possible. As usual it was totally brilliant. Paddington's wit and charm shining through just like all the other books but especially in this book as Paddington decides it's time to go to work and start making some money! At the beginning of the book, he is coming back on the boat from Darkest Peru after visiting his Aunt Lucy in the Retirement Home for Bears. The Brown family is also secretly on the boat hoping to surprise him. Paddington sees them and thinks they are ghosts. So he runs all over the ship, trying to get away from them and ends up in the doctors cabin, trying to get some medicine for seeing ghosts. By the end, the doctor needs some medicine too. By the end of the voyage, Paddington has given the ship's comedian a nervous breakdown, has made the ship's captain think he has gone overboard, has made the ship's arrival late, and has won the ship's sweepstakes of 100 pounds!Back in London though, a con artist has ripped off Paddington of his money by selling him a fake share. Paddington of course manages to catch the thief and get his money back. After that triumph, he gets roped into helping Mr Curry in his garden again but he decides he would much rather help the neighbour make a serving hatch in his kitchen - but this leads to extremely disasterous results. Finally Judy invites Paddington to her school ballet and one of the ballet dancers pulls out after the main ballet dancer - a Russian - offends her. Guess who takes her place? Yep, you guessed it. The bear with the marmalade paws!As usual, highly recommended! :-)
