    Kinky Mom - Molly Prude

    Part 1:

    The Substitute

    Smashwords Edition

    Chapter 1

Serenade Springs was a strange little town. Hardly a town at all, really. A few cul-de-sacs cut haphazardly into the woods at the terminus of a long road; a road which, if not originally paved with dirt and rocks, was very near returning to that natural state.

Molly Prude could find it on no map. The GPS in her Explorer was useless. The directions given to her by the School Board Representative had to suffice, and many times Molly almost turned the car around, sure she was heading down the wrong road.

But as she bumped down the winding, backwoods road, with complaints from Rebbecca, Angela and Kelly grinding on Molly's last nerve, the road turned from dirt to black top and Serenade Springs magically appeared before her. The chatter of her three daughters cut out suddenly as Molly rolled the Explorer into the town's small downtown core.

A leafy park, fronted on three sides by businesses, was a bustling nexus of activity. A large, three-story building occupied the far side of the park's block. The building could easily have been the town hall, school-house or library. Perhaps all three. Molly found an empty parking spot and parallel parked.

This is it? Rebbecca rubbed her sleepy eyes, popping the earbuds out of her ears as she open the car door and stepped out onto the sidewalk.

This is it, Molly said out of the car, stretching. Was this really it? Molly couldn't help but echo her oldest daughter's sentiment. She had somehow expected...more...but at first blush, it looked like a lovely little town...

This place totally bites, Angela whined, tumbling out of the backseat.

You said this town has a pool, right? Kelly added from the open windows of the car. She'd obviously made up her mind about the town and was refusing to leave the car. I don't see a pool. I don't want to live here unless there's a pool.

Molly sighed. She circled the front of her car and stepped up onto the sidewalk. She kicked off her high heels and stepped barefoot on the soft grass of the park. It was still wet, perhaps from an earlier rain shower. She sighed again, balling up her toes.

I can't believe you dragged us all the way from Philly to this place, Angelia moaned. She had her phone out, tapping at its screen. God! I can't even get a signal!

I didn't drag anyone anywhere, Molly defended herself. You're all of working age. That you still live with your mother, is your fault, not mine. Besides, it's only for the summer, Molly said. And it's the only job I can find, she added in her head.

How quickly things change. Only a year ago, Molly was living a very different life. Married, with three great girls: one girl, free and clear, engaged to nice guy, with a high-powered job in the city. One off at the University of Pennsylvania, studying pre-med. And one about to graduate Magna Cum Laude from high school, with a full-ride swimming scholarship waiter for her.

Life had been perfect. Gary had been perfect. His job, secure. Molly was just beginning those first, tentative steps in the long process of transitioning from homemaker back to the working world.

They'd been plenty of money in the bank, two cars in the garage, and nothing but lazy afternoons sitting with Gary on the stoop and summer trips to Acapulco stretching out before Molly. It had been perfect. Everything had been perfect.

Then it had all came crashing down.

After Gary died in the car accident – Molly still couldn't think about it without choking up – she began to learn about the debts. Gary had always handled the money. Stupid, Molly knew, but she'd enjoyed the blissful ignorance. She never asked the right questions and Gary never wanted to worry her. She should have been involved.

With Gary gone, the harsh light of day shinned down on the family finances. The debits fell on Molly's shoulders. The crushing weight of them all.

The bank took the house. It was too underwater to swim. Gary's life insurance hardly covered her expenses. Molly and Kelly moved to a two bedroom apartment in the city to save money, where soon they were joined by Rebbecca, the oldest.

The Philadelphia attorney was starting on her midlife crisis early. Boomerang kids, Molly had heard them called. Done with the high-pressure job and high-pressure guy, Rebbecca came home to Mommy. She took the extra bed in Kelly's room.

Angela wasn't far behind, once the tuition checks to UofP began to bounce. She took the couch.

Molly's nest was full again, with three girls to support and no income. A twenty-five year break on her résumé did her no favors in the job search. At least Molly had kept her teaching certificate current. The morning the placement agency had called with the substitute job three hundred miles out-of-town, Molly was down to her last hundred bucks. She'd had no choice. She'd packed up the Explorer, and the girls, and here she was.

    Serenade Springs.

I'm not getting out of the car until you find out if there's a pool, Kelly pouted from inside the car.

Quit acting like a fucking child! Rebbecca snapped, turning to cuss at her sister.

Quit acting like a fucking bitch! Kelly shot back.

Quit it, the both of you! Molly joined in. What had she done? Molly was beginning to fear she'd made a terrible mistake.

No...she let the grass roll between her toes. It would be okay. It was, after all, just for the summer.

Kelly still had her scholarship. Bad luck and happenstance couldn't take that away from her. Come September, Kelly would be at USC. Independent. On the other side of the country. No longer Molly's problem.

And Angela's student loans kicked in for the fall semester. She'd be back at UofP. Six months behind schedule, maybe, but there was no harm in that. She had so many years of college ahead of her.

And as for Rebbecca...well, she was grown-ass woman. If she no longer wanted to practice law, that was fine. At the very limit of Molly's vision, she could see a 'Help Wanted' sign in a Malt Shop across the park. There was always work.

And as for Molly...six months, maybe a year of experience here in the backwoods and jobs back in civilization might open up for her. She had to bide her time and life might catch up with her. Molly had to grab hold of what opportunities presented themselves.

Besides, she was still young. Young and vivacious. Both professionally and personally. Serenade Spring, might be a whole new lease on life for Molly.

Even after twenty years of marriage, three kids, and her fortieth birthday well in the rear-view mirror, Molly still held onto her figure well. Her head was still a mass of fiery red hair that she wore in locks down over her shoulders. A little extra weight gave her long legs some added shape, and padded out her behind. She wasn't afraid to wear the short skirts and high heels that showed everything off. It was all hers, after all, nothing fake. So why not show it off? And at her age, as well?

No, Molly Prude was more than just available. She was desirable. She had every intention of finding out exactly where that might take her.

Come on, let’s find the house, Molly told her daughters, turning and slipping her feet back into her heels. Another perk of the job in Serenade Springs: free accommodation. Down one of the cul-de-sacs spoking off of the park, there was a four bedroom house waiting for them all.

Then can we find something to eat? Angela asked, hopping back toward the car. We haven't eaten since that drive-thru.

We'll find a restaurant once we settle in, Molly said as she opened the driver's side door. Rebbecca and Angela climbed back into the car, Rebbecca in the passenger's seat beside Molly, Angela in back with Kelly.

What a strange sight the three of them must have made, blowing into town. Four gorgeous women all packed into an SUV. They were turning more than a few heads, Molly was certain. Serenade Springs better watch out.

Rebbecca, for her part, had inherited Molly's red hair, but it was pencil straight and worn mostly in a ponytail. At twenty-five, she hardly looked out of her teens, with girlish features that made her pixie cute. Slight, but wide-hipped, she would easily drew any admiring male glances away from Molly. But even in jeans and a t-shirt she couldn't disguise a no-nonsense, business, don't-fuck-with-me vibe. She found the earbuds to her iPod and returned them to her ears.

Angela, in contrast, had Molly's wild locks, but with the mousy-brown coloring of her father. She was slim, heavy-chested, but athletic, with wide, curious green eyes. She flatly refused to wear make-up or sexy clothes – or to shave under her arms – but easily got by on her natural good looks and subdued charm.

Kelly, for her part, had the body of a serious swimmer. She was a serious swimmer, one long, lean muscle from head-to-toe. She dyed her hair bleach blond, and kept it short and tied back. She hardly ever climbed out of sweatpants, but filled them out so firmly in all directions that no one really cared about her attire.

She did, however, also have the personally of a serious swimmer, the delicacy of a raging rhino, and the regular ability to offend almost everyone.

But despite this handicap, she held the honor of being the only occupant of the Explorer who sported a current significant other: a boy from her swim team named Cory. If was nothing serious, they were both far more focused on the next Olympics than on marriage and babies. But the move to Serenade Springs had left Cory behind. Kelly still hadn't forgiven Molly.

What were they about to unleash on an unsuspecting Serenade Springs? Molly thought to herself as she put the car in gear. Four single ladies and a whole town to explore. Molly pulled out from the curb and looked at the directions to their new home.

549 Pennydale Lane, she said for all to hear. Keep your eyes open.

    Chapter 2

Welcome to the neighborhood! The two women cried in unison, standing on the threshold of 549 Pennydaile Lane, holding a welcome basket between them. Molly was so surprised, she didn't look down at the basket as they thrust it into her hands.

The two women swooned into the great room of the house as if they owned the place. Which, potentially, they might have done.

We're the Welcome Wagon! This is Sophie, and I'm Coco, the blond woman began in a bubbly, friendly tone. Her hair was straight and long, and her dress looked like Versace. Her friend, Sophie, looked almost identical, except in brunette. Her dress was equally expensive. It's so wonderful to meet you!

They could have passed for The Real House Wives of Beverly Hills, if they'd only been a little older. In fact, they hardly looked older than Rebbecca.

Thank-thank you, Molly stuttered, handing off the welcome basket to Rebbecca. I'm Molly Prude. This is my daughter, Rebbecca.

Daughter? The two women laughed. Oh, I don't think so, they dismissed. You're too young, my dear! Sisters, maybe... they cackled.

Molly tried a smile. It wasn't that funny. No, no. My other two are upstairs. Angela and Kelly. Thank you for the warm welcome.

It's our pleasure, Sophie said. She started from the great room towards the kitchen, totally at home. I hope everything here is to your liking. Top of the line everything, don't you know. I can't possibly tell you the thread count of the sheets on the beds! Insane! But anyway, dinner is warming in the oven. Just a little something us girls whipped up! Sophie paused at the bank of restaurant-grade ovens and opened the leftmost. Inside sat a glazed ham and a baking dish of bubbling scallop potatoes.

Just something they'd whipped up, indeed. Why...thank you, Molly finally managed. She had noted the delicious aroma upon entering the house, but hadn't thought to seek out its source. The girls were running around like crazy, opening doors and pointing out features: the high-end entertainment center in the comfy den; the pool behind the house; the second floor of bedrooms, each with an on-suite.

Oh, it's nothing. Don't mention it, Coco replied. We so seldom get new families move into the neighborhood. We go a little overboard when we smell fresh meat! Coco laughed at her own joke. Sophie joined in.

"Now, it's just you girls, correct? Sophie asked, suddenly serious. No boys?"

No, just the four of us. My husband passed away a year ago, Molly answered, perhaps a little too honestly.

Err, Mom... Rebbecca's voice came from behind Molly. She was examining the consents of the welcome basket.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Sophie touched Molly's arm. She exuded genuine concern. Or faked it perfectly. That is horrible. I just can't imagine.

If there's anything we can do to help, Coco added. Don't hesitate to ask. If you need a big strong man to open or jar or something, I have one you can borrow, she quipped. Sophie cackled.

    Err, Mom... Rebbecca said again.

We're doing okay, Molly said, ignoring her daughter. But thank you. The job here in Serenade Springs is going a long way to getting us back up on our feet.

Oh that! Coco waved a dismissive hand. Glad to have you, dear! Greatest job in the world, if you ask me. Substitute teacher in a school with no students! Wish I had it so easy. Oh wait, I do! She laughed. More cackling from Sophie.

What? I'm sorry? Molly said, genuinely taken aback.

No! Coco sniffed. Not one. The children have all grown up, my dear. Sophie's, mine...all the families in town. Just us old, crotchety empty-nesters here in Serenade Springs.

Empty-nesters? Sophie and Coco didn't appear old enough to have infants, no less grown children. When did they get married? In kindergarten?

I-I-but- Molly stammered. She was speechless.

But you go see Principal Morris in the morning, Sophie said. He'll fill you in. Ed is also the Mayor.

And the Police Chief, Coco laughed.

And the Fire Marshal! Sophie added.

If fact, you need anything, dear, you go talk to Ed. Well, Coco shrugged her shoulders and glanced at her companion. I think we've imposed enough. You girls enjoy your dinner, okay? And the welcome basket. And we'll have you all over for a drink very soon. Cocktails on the porch, and all that sort of thing. Laughter.

Molly was still processing the earlier bombshell. What? Yes, thank-you, that would be wonderful...

And we have a Book Group, dear, Sophie said as the two women scooted towards the rear door of the house. I hope you'll join. Just us girls, you know, she said, conspiratorially.

We'll just slip out the back, if that's alright? Coco asked as she opened the kitchen door. All our yards back onto each other. We'll just cut across the lawn.

And then they were gone. The whirlwind of Chanel and bubbling laughter let the kitchen door close slowly behind them.

Oh my God, Molly exclaimed. They're the Stepford Wives... she watched as Coco and Sophie circled the pool behind the house and struggle in their heels across the soft grass.

Not exactly, Rebbecca said from behind Molly. She was still absorbed by the contents of the welcome basket. Molly turned and looked into the wicker basket for the first time. She'd expected wine, soaps, but the welcome basked was full of something very different.

    Sex toys and pornography.

Oh my God! Molly repeated, taking a large, purple dildo out of its presentation nest of cotton wool. Inexplicably, it began to vibrate, flexing and kicking in Molly hand. She dropped it back into the basket where it ceased its gyration.

Rebbecca laughed, putting an embarrassed hand over her mouth. Molly blushed. What the hell was wrong with this town?

They're crazy! Molly said, looking back out of the kitchen window. The Welcome Wagon had vanished from her lawn.

Maybe they have a sex toy business or something. Rebbecca shrugged, smirking. You know how those parties are popular with bored housewives. Maybe these are samples...

    It's disgusting! Molly exclaimed.

Here, Rebbecca's chuckled, pulling an envelope out of the smutty pile. I guess this is the order sheet or something. She began to tear open the heavy, white paper. Molly looked at her, quizzically.

But it was no order form, or a Hallmark 'Welcome to the Neighborhood' card. The front sported a delicate inlay of a nude in gold leaf, and inside there was only a cryptic verse:

    These words to rede

    Eternal youth

    Extracts a price

    As tithe and proof

    For less ye serve it

    Thrice a day

    Thy rose's bloom

    wiltith away.

    Hunger, as price,

    Extracts its due

    Not once, or twice

    But thrice from you.

Rebbecca read it out loud. She paused, looked at the back of the card, then read it out loud again. It made no more sense the second time.

Those two are wacko, Molly said again. If that's the Welcome Wagon, it doesn't speak well for the rest of the town...

Hardly great poets, but still... Rebbecca put the card back in the welcome basket and picked up the purple dildo.

Leave that alone! Molly commanded. The sound of stomping feet came from the main stairs in the hall. Hide it! Molly scrambled to squirrel the welcome basket away in a cabinet. "Good Lord, I'd hate to have to explain that to your sisters..."

    Chapter 3

But the welcome basket required no explanation.

Molly and the girls ate the dinner left for them in the oven. It was delicious. Deliriously so. The Prudes, never a family for pigging-out, happily accepted seconds and a generous helping of the gelato cake Molly discovered in the well-stocked refrigerator.

Full to the point of exploding, and sick-to-death of each other's company after the long drive, everyone faded away from the table once the meal was complete, and retired to their respective rooms.

Molly, of course, had the master suite, with the large, two person jacuzzi tub. But the tub was really the only notable feature that distinguished the master suite apart from the other rooms. They were all equally as spacious and as well-adorned. 549 Pennydale lane was a mansion by any standards. It was like the dark side of the moon in
