I learned many tools of writing during the years watching directors like Mike Nichols and actors including Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins, and Billy Crystal. And would you believe, I was Geraldine Ferraro’s stand– in leg model, my first job giving me entrée into all the Unions needed to work. When the sweet time ended, I began another career and creative juices flowed.”You can reach Charmaine athttp://authorCharmaineGordon.wordpress.comAnd on her FB page http://www.facebook.com/charmaine.gordon

Dedication
Does anyone recall the song, This is dedicated to the one I love?
Dr. D and the Dad is dedicated to two of the ones I love gone beyond just a moment ago in time. Blue and Jack, my four footed furry companions who lay at my feet as I wrote books including pets as integral parts of stories. Always by my side purring as if they approved of the tap, tap, tapping of the keyboard, never asking for more than a dish of food and some love.
Acknowledgements
I acknowledge the fact that when I met Kimberlee Williams, Vanilla Heart Publishing, I didn’t even know how to format a manuscript for submission, or cut and paste or other critical thingys needed to be coherent in the writer’s trade. She, yes that’s you, Kimberlee, taught me most everything with loving care and sometimes a sharp admonish I can’t write here. And whatever else I needed I called Chelle Cordero and she filled in the blank spaces, like the good friend she is. After the edits, we always finish with laughter and end on a high note. Can you hear me now?
Enjoy Dr. D and the Dad,
a different kind of love story overcoming hurdles to find what lies ahead.
Chapter 1
She’s sleepin’. Doctor D’s sleepin’,
the smallest boy said and giggled. Little fingers lifted my sunglasses and dropped them back on my sun burned nose. More giggles.
Almost sleepin’, I thought, eyes closed. If they’d let me. Easy to doze in the hot sun, heavy wet sand covering most of my ample body. This band of munchkins, my patients at the clinic, wore themselves out carrying little red, blue and striped pails of sand. When a high pitched voice interrupted my reveries to ask if they could cover my toes, I’d said sure. Little did I know they’d get carried away and create a mountain of me at this end of St. Augustine Beach. And little did I know they’d abandon me for cookies and juice when mommy called as the tide began to roll back in. It was a warning. You too can be replaced by a cookie. Should be posted at the beach and given along with every birth certificate.
I wiggled my toes, not easy to do under the heavy blanket of sand. The right big toe worked its way free, flamingo pink nail polish reflecting the sun and water. I grinned at my
