About this ebook

Beautiful, headstrong Stacy Bennett is about to set off for a new life on the other side of the country when she meets passionate young pastor Mark Strong. They can't deny the attraction between them, but how can they make it work when she is moving two thousand miles away? And how can this modern feminist cope with his traditional views on domestic discipline?

She wears clothes that certainly aren't appropriate for a potential pastor's wife, and has a fiery temper to match her red hair. Will she push him too far, or will his commitment to spanking her wherever and whenever she deserves it drive her even further into his arms?

She knows that she loves him and honors him, but can she promise to obey him? Doing so would commit her to a lifetime of discipline at his hands and, unless she can amend her ways, the likelihood of a sore backside most evenings. Will love win out, or will her unwillingness to say one simple word tear them apart?

About the Author

Chapter 1

Pastor Mark Strong looked out over his congregation as he delivered the conclusion to his sermon. ... and that is why St. Paul teaches us that wives should submit to their husbands. Submission and discipline are at the heart of a traditional, godly marriage. Submitting to the head of the household is a very liberating experience for a woman. And discipline, when it is administered in love, is the path to that freedom. It is the best way for everyone, for society, for the husband, and for the wife. Perhaps especially for the wife. Amen.

He picked up his notes and made his way back from the pulpit to the padded blue chair at the front of church. As usual, the church was now silent as the congregation took a few moments to reflect on his words and how it applied to their lives. But as he sat down and took a quick sip of water, he realized that the silence was stretching on for far longer than it usually did. Why hadn’t the music started for the next song? He glanced over to the piano expecting to see old Mrs. Smith rustling through her sheets of music, searching desperately for the right one. Instead was greeted by a glare from a very pretty young red-haired woman. Of course. Mrs. Smith was on vacation this week and had arranged for her niece to cover for her.

He hadn’t had an opportunity to introduce himself to her before the service, but he had been assured that she was talented enough to play whatever songs he chose and that she had been fully briefed on how things were usually done in Amity Family Baptist Church.

He smiled over to her and nodded as if to say that she should continue. But all he got back was a stare of utter contempt. What was she doing? He decided to make it even clearer for her that it was time to start playing.

He stood up and cleared his throat. The next hymn is number 532 if you’re using the books. Then he turned to face her and smiled. Thank you, he strained his mind to remember the name he had been told. Stacy.

She gave him another evil look before launching into the song’s opening chords with significantly less gusto than she had with the songs before the sermon.

At least she was now playing, and the service could continue. And with a bit of luck not too many people would have noticed the long pause in proceedings. But that still didn’t explain what she had been doing. He could only assume that she hadn’t liked what he had said in the sermon. He knew that some people wouldn’t, particularly the kind of wrong-thinking feminist that claimed they wanted equality, but only succeeded in undermining family values at every turn.

Not everyone loved traditional values, Mark knew, but that didn’t make them any less right. And it certainly didn’t give this new piano player the right to hold up his church service with her own little protest. How old was she? Early twenties would be his guess; bright red hair, piercing green eyes and a pretty face. Not that it mattered how pretty she was, he would have words with her after the service was over. She was old enough to know better, and he intended to let her know.

But he had to put her out of his mind for now. He had a service to finish, and as much as he wanted to start constructing the little lecture he was going to give her, there were more important things to attend to.

He’d been pastor of this small town church for nearly a year now. It wasn’t the kind of place he ‘had imagined starting his ministry in. He’d expected to leave seminary and head off to a big church in the heart of a bustling city. Somewhere like Chicago, where his parents were living now, or New York. But not here in farming country where the social highlight of the year was the summer fair and its centerpiece, the hotly contested corndog eating contest. Last year, little Davey Hanson nearly killed himself eating twelve of them in the allotted three minutes, but that hadn’t stopped him entering again this year.

The people were friendly enough, and he had been made to feel completely at home, but it was miles from anywhere. That was why he’d come in the first place, of course. To get away from it all. To get over Louisa.

It was three years now since her death. It had been the week after they had got engaged when the accident happened. Some idiot had decided to drive his truck back after a long night at the bar, weaving all over the road and crashing into her as she was waiting to cross the road. She had died instantly, which was a mercy at least, but the heart-pounding shock of being told what had happened still woke him from his sleep every now and then.

He stopped everything. He had pulled out of seminary, stopped seeing his friends, and spent hours just moping around his apartment. He had even questioned his faith for a few dark weeks. But, with the support of his family, and some wise
