About this ebook
The world is about to change.
John is twelve-years-old and lives with his mother and abusive stepfather, dreaming of a better life. At fifteen, Philo is John’s best friend and poised to follow in his father’s footsteps. Myriam is John’s closest friend who's only desire is for someone to heal her mother who’s been ill for Myriam’s entire life. All three live in K’far-Nachum, a sleepy fishing village on the northern shores of the Sea of Galil in first-century Isra’el, a village where nothing exciting ever seems to happen. However, they are about to meet a mysterious stranger who sets in motion a series of events that have ramifications far into the future.
John has a gift to memorize scripture quickly, and this brings him to the attention of Philo’s father, the head priest of their town’s religious council. Together they deal with the stranger, a man who challenges their traditions, their faith and their comfortable lifestyle. Myriam believes the stranger is God's messenger, but John and Philo are not so sure. All the man does is baptize townspeople in the local river in defiance of the established religious order. John cannot understand what makes normal people choose to trust this man's words, to the point of joining him in their muddy river.
Just when they are able to successfully silence the “messenger," events change dramatically when an even more formidable opponent from Natzeret comes to town, a priestly figure that rivals his own teachers and worries even their Roman occupiers. John, his friends, his family and his teachers are thrust into the adventure of a lifetime that brings them from their small village across the sea to Herod's Palace, down the road to Yerushalayim, and finally up to the top of a small hill called Gulgota.
