Chapter One
Halley Shields stretched out her legs on the chilled hallway floor as she sat in front of her locker. In her lap, her pencil scratched the thick paper of her pad, sketching a picture of her family's car cruising down a vacant road. She started it on the drive to their new city not wanting to look up while her old city blurred past her through the window.
This was hard, having to leave home and arrive at this new town with new people. No one to talk to but her parents and older brother who paid more attention to video games than his real life girlfriend. It's no fun being tossed into a brand new school with brand new classmates, subjects, and teachers. She wanted to fit in. She wanted people to like her.
