The air was still, stifling, hot. The two bodies on the bed added to the heat. Glistening sweat poured off of them as they moved in unison. The bed creaked with their lovemaking, a rhythmic thump becoming faster, and then slower, prolonging the ultimate end.

Romy spread her fingers over Kai’s well-muscled back. She loved the feel of his weight between her legs, the way he felt inside her, filling her completely. She lightly scraped her nails along his skin, biting her bottom lip as he responded to the light pain. She wrapped her legs around his waist, feeling him slip deeper inside of her. He emitted a low growl, the deep bass vibrating in her chest. She loved hearing that growl; it was the only time he allowed his inner animal to show. ‘For your safety,’ he always said. She was determined for him to let go completely some day.

Romy ran her fingers through his thick, black hair, pulling his head down so their lips could meet. She breathed him in, exhilarated by his musky scent; she tasted him, his spice intoxicating. I love what you do to me, Romy whispered seductively into his ear.

Feeling’s mutual, Kai answered lightly. He rose up on his hands, looking deeply into her grey eyes. His muscles tensed and relaxed with each thrust. Romy knew he was close - she could always tell. Romy saw the sincerity in Kai’s vivid blue eyes. She tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. Our secret place. Only us.

Suddenly, Kai’s cell phone went off, disturbing their quiet, intimate moment. He got out of bed, his back showing narrow red stripes where her nails had scraped. And then there was the bite mark on his firm, round ass, Romy noted happily. She knew that she shouldn’t have, but it was still a few days to the full moon. It would be gone in time.

He picked up the phone and gave her a wink, meandering around the room as he spoke. Romy sat up, watching his muscled form. Like most of his kind, he was well-muscled and tall, with a thin waist, broad chest, and long fingers and toes. Even his cock seemed muscled, still semi-erect even after the long hours of lovemaking. He spoke in hushed tones, using a voice she knew only too well. He was talking to his father.

She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Kai never came right out and said it, but she knew his father wanted him to mate, settle down, and create heirs. That was something she could never give him, even if she had been accepted into the clan. She had always wanted children, but no man had come along … until now, just a little too late. As she watched him from across the room, she asked herself again why she didn’t let him go. Kai would be a wonderful father, but she was selfish and couldn’t let him go. Romy loved him with all her heart and soul, and he loved her in return. It didn’t matter that she couldn’t give him children, or so he said. She wondered if he would regret being with her someday. The thought brought tears to her eyes and only the slamming of the phone against the wall tore her away from her musings.

What’s wrong?

The son-of-a-bitch wants me to meet a female wolf from a neighboring clan. He just doesn’t get it - I want you. Kai sat down and brought her hand to his lips.

Romy swallowed hard. Maybe … you know, just, um meet this female? Make him happy? Couldn’t hurt to have coffee with her, right? Then tell your father you two didn’t click.

Romy, I’d never do that to you! Ever! Kai intertwined their fingers.

Romy looked up at him through her thick lashes. I know you’d never cheat on me. I trust you implicitly. But it would get him off your case for a few weeks, right? It’s just coffee. She sat up, her long hair cascading around them as she laid her chin on his shoulder. Do it. Meet this female. Then come back here, to me.

You are one in a million, you know that? Kai gave her a long kiss.

So, you’d better go make another phone call. Tell your father that you agree to going for coffee. I need to get home myself, Romy said as she started to get up.

Wait. Wait, please. Kai gently grasped her arm. One day, one day soon, I will leave the clan for you. This I swear.

Romy stared at him in disbelief. Kai, you … you can’t. You’re the next in line and you have no brothers. From what you told me about werewolf clans, they’d hunt you down and force you back.

Not if I renounce them and go through a ritual.

What kind of ritual?

Kai shook his head. Don’t worry about it.

I will worry about it. What kind of ritual?
