Where are you? Donna asked. Will’s phone was wedged up against his ear as he struggled to get the shopping bags into the boot of the car.

At Tesco’s, he grumbled. Donna laughed. She knew how much he hated grocery shopping. "His Majesty rings me from work and says he’s forgotten to get a few things for dinner tonight, and please, please, please would I go and get them?" He stared at the bags, all four of them. A few things? It looked to Will like the whole dinner was in there.

Blake’s got you shopping for your own birthday dinner? How mean is that?

Will wasn’t fooled. He could hear the laughter in Donna’s voice. I suppose you think I should be grateful that he’s going to come home from a long day ordering people about in his little publishing empire, and then cook for me?

Donna chuckled. Well, we all know you do nothing but sit around on your arse all day, chatting on Facebook and pretending to write.

Will growled as he closed the boot with a satisfying clunk. I’ll have you know I was in the middle of my edits when he rang. I hate it when I have to leave off working. He climbed into the driver’s seat.

Her loud guffaw rang in his ear. "Oh, come off it, you loathe editing!"
