About this ebook
Mya navigates a human-dominated landscape filled with inexplicable gadgets, simple pleasures and strange holidays, unafraid to assert her “dogness” at every turn. The friendly beagle reminds her human audience that the length of a leash is an oh-so-surmountable limitation for a well-meaning dog with an appetite for adventure.
Samantha’s own experience writing her memoir The Beauty of My Shadow aided Mya in composing hers. Together, they’ve helped each other power through the ups and downs of a world with a propensity for unexpected happenings, reminding each other that beauty is fleeting and fragile but it is nonetheless everywhere, ready to reveal itself to those willing to look

SUMMER: The Butterfly
The sunlight warms my fur. It is the hottest time of the year and I am lying outside looking into the forest behind my house. Every day I work inside as a watchdog for Samantha. My bed in the house is the best spot to see all the action but today I feel like being outside. I usually bark at most dogs I see walking not too far away on a path in the woods. Who I bark at depends on my mood and what time of the day it is. But when I am outside, I am only allowed to bark once; otherwise I get in trouble. I usually try to be a good dog.
This summer has been exciting so far because a small furry animal with pointy ears and a white and fluffy short tail moved underneath the wood I am lying on, the one Samantha calls a deck. Now I want to be outside all the time to catch it. I am always ringing a bell that hangs from the door handle and scratching the glass which makes Samantha say no
really loud. One day she spoke loud to a black box, about the size of one of my toys, while she held it up to her head.
The bunny is out and running into the forest! I have to block him from getting back under! Bye!
she said.
She quickly ran outside and put some pieces of wood at the bottom of the porch, yet the scent of the animal called Bunny did not disappear. So I still hunt for it daily. I hope that it will come again. I often scratch the wood and try to get underneath to see what Bunny did down there because I heard it being busy moving around and building something. Samantha got mad at me for scratching so much. One day as I was digging she spoke loud to me. She then removed some of the wood to let me inspect where Bunny had been. I did not find it there and I looked everywhere I could! I still have not given up though and I will keep
