The hotel door opened to a woman of exquisite beauty, and to Cal, this was no big deal. Her body was obvious under her business suit, and he knew he was going to see it. Feel it. Peruse it and amuse it. This was nothing different from any appointment. The female body impressed him, and attracted him, no doubt there, but like any mechanic he knew its intricacies. Service with a smile, make the Earth move, sleep well.

But this woman, unlike any of the maybe hundred others, had eyes. Soft brown eyes. Hard brown eyes. Hasty brown eyes. Confident brown eyes.

Insane brown eyes, if she wanted them.

This woman was executive class. Taut, lean, and Cal be damned if her gorgeous eyes didn't give her a soul. That was the difference. No words spoken yet, and Cal knew for the first time he was going to be with a woman who had a soul.

    I'm Cal, he said.

Please, come in. Her voice was a low perfection. Yes, soul was definitely the word. I don't usually do this. In fact, never. But you're well recommended.

    Am I?

Yes, she said. My name is Jessica. My friend Lois gave me your number.

Cal nodded at the name, but he didn't know who Lois was.

She said your methods were peculiar, but you must have done something right. The word she used was … well …

    Well?

    Jessica smirked. ‘Crazy.’

He watched her walk into the room, slim and stirring in her businesswoman's clothes. He'd heard all the gossipy recommendations the women gave each other. No big deal there either. His job was to cause craziness in the form of orgasm. Crazy, huh?

Jessica laughed. Well, you know Lois. She's pretty clean-cut…you know, conservative.

No, he thought, I don't know, actually. But I'm polite and I like your eyes. Jessica uncorked a bottle of champagne on the bureau, boiling fizz into the ice bucket.

Lois also said you like champagne. Have some?

Yes, please, he replied. She poured and handed him a glass.

Like I said, I don't usually do this, but…well, I've had a problem with men for many years.

Oh boy, stop her right there. Ugly men stories weren't part of the job. Keep it clean, keep it simple, keep it anatomical.

Look, Cal said. I don't want to sound brusque because you're paying a lot of money for this, but the less you say about that, the better.

Oh, she replied. She donned a cold expression as she put her glass down. He tried to catch her eyes, but they stayed down, too. Do you want your money now?

Damn, Cal thought. He had come off more rudely than he had intended. I'm polite, remember?

No…I… He was stuck for words. A rarity. That's not what I meant. I mean, you can pay me after I'm done. He grinned sheepishly and saw the eyes. Strange, unusual, yet thoroughly lovely. He set his glass down next to hers. I'm sorry. See, it's better for me to stay objective in my line of work, but you just seem different than other people I've dealt with, that's all.

She tilted her head and flashed a suspicious smile. What do you mean by different?

Piqued her interest, that was good. On the road to trust, and that was the one thing his job required, other than anatomy. A smidgen of flirting was healthy, and the women usually initiated it. That was nothing new for Cal; he was no model, but handsome in a disarming, average sort of way. His visage wasn't threatening, and that helped clients be more receptive of his services. And rates.

Just…different, he said. She turned around, and Cal took a monstrous gulp from his newly refilled glass, draining it. Don't worry. You're a nice different. He cleared his throat calmly and put the glass on the dresser. Would you like to get started?

    She nodded.

Okay, this is simple, he said. Just take off your clothes and lie on the bed.

She looked at him. Just like that?

That's how I work, he said.

"Yes, Lois said something about that. Part of the reason I was intrigued,
