About this ebook
"Exciting, complex and richly textured, with a world you'll believe and a protagonist you have to cheer for -- Silky is wonderful."
Holly Lisle (Quote from original 1998 Embiid Publishing release.)
Captured as a child and sold into heartless slavery, life has robbed Silky of his magical abilities and left him with no expectations of a better life -- until his own act of bravery delivers him into the hands of a powerful Lord of the Land.
His troubles are far from over since Lord Reed is out of favor with the King and danger threatens at any mischance. Working with Lord Reed starts him along a path that will lead to power, danger and heartbreak -- and a future the young slave boy could never have imagined.

Reviews for Silky

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I should have reviewed this immediately, before I read the sequels - it's hard to remember where the story stops. At which turning point in Silky's life did this book end and the next one start? His life is very well evoked - we see very little of him with Master Morlin, but we know exactly the sort of life he had. Lord Reed is immediately sympathetic and immediately interesting. Silky goes through...hmmm, one, two, three, four, five...five major life-changes at least. I won't list them, that would be major spoilers. But throughout he remains Silky - he holds on to certain things, calling them Tassanian, but I think they're inherent in him. His work ethic, honesty, and twisty mind (and no, those are not incompatible) are the things that carry him through ups and downs and some very strange twists and leave him high and happy at the end of the story. The descriptions - the people, places, and events that Silky encounters - are beautifully laid out. I have clear images of many of Silky's familiar places, and I swear I wince whenever he gets himself hurt again - I can feel his pain. The nastily clever twist of his inability to tolerate magic, including healing magic, means he spends a lot of time recuperating from one thing and another - but it never slows down the story. Beautifully written.
