You can do this in Second Life because there is a form of chat which is public and open to everyone, and you can also be chatting via IM with others in the area, and nobody can see what you are saying privately to each other.

I think some of my most intense sexual moments in Second Life have come from those times when I was chatting with someone else.

We would just be standing there chatting, those around us would have no idea what was going on, but behind the scenes we would be hot, horny and going for our lives behind our respective keyboards.
