Preface
Osteoporosis is a public health issue all around the world. Beyond nutrition and drugs, intervention with exercise is very important to prevent bone, reduce bone loss but especially to prevent falls and fractures with increasing age. The description of the proper exercise in patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis is important to reinforce the muscular system and repair body deformations, without danger for patient’s fragile skeleton.
Exercises included in this book are not the only ones for osteoporosis. There are exercises of tai chi, power yoga, osteopilates, as well as exercises with Swiss ball, which were excluded from the book, because our purpose was to include already known exercises, aiming at being useful to everyone, everywhere in the world.
I would like to thank Prof. of Orthopedics George P. Lyritis, for his trust in me to the discipline of Exercise in Osteoporosis during the years 2004-2007 in the Laboratory for Research of the Musculoskeletal System in the University of Athens.
Many thanks to Dr. Pavlos Msaouel for his collaboration in the chapter of everyday activities, Mrs. Christoforidou Z., Dr. Nixon A., Mr. Spyrou S.; Nikos, Spyropoulos Y. and Verveniotis D. graduates of
