J L Kaye

Hot steamy stuff is the forte of JL Kaye, author of “Cascade Nights”, "Friendly Fire" and the short story "Nanoelf of the Roses". Kaye also has published another erotic novel “Haunting Experiences” and Free Radicals is nearly ready for publishing as an eBook in 2011. Other than the fractured fairy tale about the nanoelf, Kaye’s erotica centers on the sometimes private lifestyles of professionals who want more from romances than kiss-and-not-tell. In 2011, JL Kaye expects a fourth work consisting of a broad collection of sci-fi, western and romantic short stories to be published as an eBook.J. L. Kaye lives north of San Diego.

Calvin Hampson regained consciousness, face down in the damp duff of the redwood forest. The ground smelled sweet, sweeter than the ooze he smelled 20 years before in a rice paddy in Nam. This tastes better, too, he thought as his mind cleared. Something wet and raspy ran across my face. I don’t want to open my eyes because of what I might see. He heard a small feminine voice, further off than the dripping of rain.

Regis, come. The sensation across his cheek left. Monsieur, you alright?

Calvin tried to rise from the wet ground but a heavy weight across his shoulders pressed down. A spasm of pain surged up through his neck. He relaxed and fell back to Earth. Footsteps came closer. He looked to see who owned the gentle voice so he could answer. I don’t know. Something won’t …

Let me help. You’ve got one big tree branch across your back. Likely fell from above. Knocked you out.

Her voice soothed and nurtured him. Moments later he saw her boots and jeans curled up at the bottom into cuffs. A dark nose dropped down to sniff and he noticed silvery fur and four paws attached to a large dog. Then the weight came off his shoulders and dropped alongside him.

Thank you. He whispered, rolled over on his side, took several deep breaths and worked his eyes up from her boots toward the face.

Usually I hear branches fall in a storm. Didn’t hear this one.

I dampened the sound. Calvin stretched his six-foot-four length and sat on his haunches before rising, then winced as his shoulders reminded him what it felt like when a bark encrusted branch scored a direct hit.

    You hunting mushrooms?

Yeah. Left home late last night to avoid traffic in San Francisco. Got here about three this morning, slept in my truck until dawn; got up and started wandering around to scope out the finds when that must have …

    Knocked you out.

He nodded, flexed his arms and shoulders, and rotated his head. When pain subsided, he turned, faced the woman and squinted into the mist to see her face.

    I’m Chantal, Chantal du Coeur.

    Pretty name. French?

"French Canadian. Visiting here to take care of Regis, my friends’ dog, while they’re away on
