About this ebook

It's the Spring Festival in Redwood Cove, with its outdoor grilled salmon dinners and local handmade crafters' booths. As the town prepares for the celebration, the newcomers and townfolk alike share one relatively quiet day.

This short prequel introduces the characters in the other three books:

The Mermaid of Redwood Cove (Meaghan and Griffin)
The Beacon of Redwood Cove (Libby and Darren)
The Shaman of Redwood Cove (Crystal and Alex - and Ronnie)

----

Redwood Cove is a fictitious small town on the far Northern California coast. The area seems to draw spirited creative types who are more comfortable in nature than in big cities. The stories of Redwood Cove are contemporary fiction that include romance with a slightly paranormal twist.

This book is approximately 35 pages long.

    Chapter One

The countryside was beautiful, but Crystal was getting tired. It felt like she'd been driving for hours on the sparsely trafficked road and she needed to get out and stretch. She hadn't seen many others sharing her journey as she drove from San Francisco to Oregon. Of course, she'd been preoccupied. But that was to be expected.

Coming out west was her own idea. She'd made a mess of things with her sister - and her sister's boyfriend. So she'd run away. As far away as she could get.

Not that she could blame either one of them for being upset. She'd been stupid and manipulative. And ultimately sorry. Very sorry. She knew she could never put things back the way they'd been, so running away seemed the next smartest thing for her to do. In some ways it was her chance to start over again.

Originally she'd planned to settle in San Francisco, thinking she could disappear into the crowded city - just one more anonymous face among the many. But that hadn't worked out so well.

She'd missed her friends and their close-knit circle. She soon found that being alone in a big city was worse than being alone in a small town. So, she decided to check out Oregon. She'd heard so much about it - small towns, open spaces, tree-huggers and all.

She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't realize how low on gas she had gotten until she heard the warning chime and saw the light come on her dashboard. Dang, that meant only a few more miles. She couldn't remember how long it had been since she'd passed the last gas station, and the highway seemed to stretch away with no sign of civilization close by.

    "Great job
