    Detective Lance MacKnight pulled up in front of the alley in his unmarked cruiser. It was the seedy side of town, where windows tended to be boards and bars instead of glass. Tenement developments dating from around the war stood around him, looking as poor and uncared for as the people living within them did.

    Lance sympathized with them. Why face the reality of your existence, when you could escape it for a little bit at a time with some chemical aid?

The drug kingpin, some guy who’d given himself the grandiose and ominous pseudonym Oppenheimer, was growing more and more like a Mexican Cartel drug lord every day. He would probably love to make an example of a police detective all alone in his territory.
