    WHAT’S TO COME?

    SEPTEMBER 20, 2112

Minchu counted out loud with each chime as he stared up at the immense blue-faced clock on the Towne Square tower. Ten ...eleven...twelve...thirteen... His neck, wrapped tightly with a blue scarf, was somewhat rigid from gazing upwards. After the last of the bakers dozen of deafening clangs, he began to walk blindly with his head stuck in the uplifted position. He painfully and slowly lowered his head letting out a long sigh of relief. AAAhhhhhhh...Why I am compelled to look up every time that confounded thing strikes thirteen is beyond my understanding. He mumbled in his native Wibblean accent. You could hear a crackling as he twisted his head, first to the right and then to the left so as to position it comfortably back into place. He buttoned his gray jacket to his neck blocking out the unusually frigid September wind that gusted turbulently in his direction.

Everyday Minchu stood in the exact same spot at the exact same time. Yes Thirteen-o-clock. Only in the small town of Wibbley was there such a time. How it all came about is a story that not many people could understand. Join Minchu on his journey to the mysterious Mt. Kadooble to find out

'Why Time Was Changed In Wibbley'.

    CHAPTER 1

    THE BEGINNING

It all started on a warm and breezy autumn day in 2072. Minchu, an intelligent but somewhat peculiar fourteen year old boy was in his basement, which he called his laboratory. His curiosity often inspired him to experiment with things that most children his age would not take an interest in. He was very much unlike his siblings and classmates both intellectually and physically. Minchu’s life was very lonely because he was so much different than everyone else but through the years he had learned to accept the loneliness. Minchu! his mother called out. What are you up to now?

"Nothing much mum. I’m just working on my latest invention.

What are you making this time son?

It’s called an ‘oscillating epoch modifier’.

What in the world is that? She asked as she clomped down the old wooden basement staircase. You are always coming up with new discoveries but you never reveal them to the world. Keeping them to yourself allows nobody to enjoy them but you. Just look around this room. I have never seen so many contraptions just collecting dust. Minchu, your inventions need to be shared with others.

Mum, you know that I’m not the same as everyone else. Most kids would laugh at my inventions just like they laugh at me.

That’s not true son now show me how this thing works.

First let me explain what it will do. This box is magical. It will take you back to the happiest time in your life.

Minchu grunted as he lifted a small metal box up onto the table that was in front of him. The box seemed to be a little heavy for a lad of his frail stature but with a few huffs and a few puffs he managed to elevate it to the table top.

Are you telling me this thing will take me back in time?

No Mum. It will just make you re-experience your memories. Now mum, you have to watch very closely. He said as he put a skeleton key into the oblong hole on the front of the box. He slowly rotated the key in a clockwise direction until it stopped with a clink. He lifted the top of the box slowly and cautiously as if something might spring out of it like a jack-in-the-box. His mom anxiously moved closer to the now open and glowing box to see what was inside.

That’s only a mirror Minchu. She said with disappointment. I thought you were going to show me something special and interesting.

The mirror was swinging to and fro like a metronome inside the metal box.

Look in mum. Look close into the mirror. Not at your reflection but at what is around your reflection. Now concentrate and think about a happy time in your past.

    She
