    Introduction

For all those new to my writing, I would like to say welcome. I will try and keep this brief. I don’t mind if you wish to skip straight to the stories within. Feel free. I will not be hurt.

For those still with me, thank you. I have written a brief introduction, a reason behind the stories within this book and a chance to shed a little light on what brought about the existence of Silver Dreamers.

Silver Dreamers, both the story and this book, is a collection of ideas. They are the small thoughts. The annoying ideas that keep you awake and successfully climbing the walls with their persistence. Never letting you rest until they are let free into the world. The kind of ideas that creep up on you just as you close your eyes, refusing to leave until the alarm starts screaming in your ear and you discover you’ve been up all night. Then, you must go through the act of waking up and pretending you’re not falling asleep at work. At least, I pretend.

After many attempts to clear my mind, none of which have worked, I bring you a series of short stories. Each one an idea that will not stretch, even with a lot of padding, to form a full length novel. Yet, they refuse to leave. Nagging me into the final submission of writing them out and breathing life to their characters. After much resistance, caffeine and sugar, I have done just that. Bringing out, what I hope you will agree, are a few good tales.

For now, I will let you get to the stories. I hope you have as much fun reading them as I had writing them. For questions, check out the connect with the author page at the end of the book. And, sorry for the advert, for a list of my other books check out the also by this author page.

I’ll stop rambling now. Thank you for taking the time to read my mitigation, I hope you enjoy Silver Dreamers.

    All the best,

    Timothy Lincoln.

    Silver Dreamers

There was something wrong. Cassie Thompson stood, eyes fixed on the people around her, limbs frozen as if someone had pressed the pause button on reality and they were waiting for someone to press play again. Fear knotted her stomach. Cold creepers of terror clawed through her skin, sinking into her muscles as a shiver passed through her.

Walking a few feet, she paused, brushing a lock of red hair from her eyes. With a wave at an elderly woman holding onto a small dog, her mind raced for an explanation. People didn’t just freeze, limbs locked in place, for no reason.

A breeze fluttered the people’s clothing, adding some movement to the otherwise perfect tableau. Cassie wanted to scream. To run through the streets of London, shouting at the people to wake them from their slumber. To release the fear simmering in her mind.

Yet, the fear held her back. Crushing the air from her lungs and locking her gaze on the frozen people. Held in place by the hand of some unseen power. Something Cassie couldn’t understand. Couldn’t fight.

Releasing a stuttering breath, she pulled her jacket tighter. There was no warding off the ice in her her bones. The fear chocked her in a strangle hold, sucking the warmth from her body.

Hello, she said, voice nearly lost to
