CEFF: Formula for Digital Capture
()
About this ebook
Mr. Sanders, aka ronieaz (ronnie A Z ), for years kept getting great compliments for his pictures from all sorts of people – co-workers, students, relatives, teachers, strangers. They told him he must have a really good camera. They told him he has “the eye”. They told him he could sell postcards.
C.E.F.F. - Formula for Digital Capture, is just that, a formula. Mr. Sanders pondered long and hard to boil down what he was doing naturally, so he could express it in the E=mc2 of digital photography.
In his first book, he decided to visit one of his alma maters, Arizona State University, where he walked around like he usually does on his many excursions. He captured 10 images, then reverse engineered each one, using the CEFF formula.
You’ll enjoy his pragmatic way of capturing these images on the ASU campus in Tempe, Az.: Copper Arches, Brick Chair, Window Wall, Tireless Horse, Sky Hole, Tree Lab, Reflected Palm, Leaning Tau, Concrete Fence, and Dripping Stone. You’ll say to yourself, “I can’t believe it’s this easy to get exceptional pictures.”
Step out of your snap&shoot, point&click mode today.
Read C.E.F.F. – Formula for Digital Capture, so you can start capturing those great images and capture those great compliments!

The author’s about six two; the author’s about married; the author’s about dogs & furry friends; the author’s about takin’ pictures; the author’s about the music of Enya; the author’s about appreciating what God made for us. My website is ronieaz.com. The way I pronounce this is: Ronnie - A - Z. You can search for ronieaz on YouTube to watch videos of me using the CEFF formula while on one of my excursions. The bulk of my excursions are in Arizona, but I also have a few in Kentucky, where we visit family every year.

Would you believe I’ve been chasing this idea of writing a simple book since 2011? When we were kids, circa James Bond-Sean Connery, my older brother and I stood on an empty barge in the Ohio River. He jumped off, no problem. I never did.
I’m considering this book my leap of faith. Faith in myself finally, that I have the ability and mental disposition to put myself out there and pretend I’m a real photographer.

So, what the heck does CEFF stand for?
It stands for COMPOSURE, EXPOSURE, FOCUS, FIELD. Composing the photo; adjusting the desired exposure; deciding what we want to focus on; and making a determination as to how much depth of field we would like to see.
[By the way, this book is for us serious amateurs, not the likes of Joe McNally, Tamara Lackey, or Scott Kelby. ]
Please repeat it to yourself over and over, so you memorize it. Then, when you are getting ready to take a picture, repeat it again. Write it on a 3x5 index card and keep it in your camera case on top where it’s the first thing you see before you pull the camera out. Maybe someday I’ll make available camera straps with the logo on it.
Repeating COMPOSURE . . EXPOSURE . . FOCUS . . FIELD as you get in position to take a picture is a good thing. Treat it like a Harry Potter spell you’re going to whammy on the scene in front of you. At some point, you will not have to say it at all because it will have become your automatic approach to every image you want to capture.
com~po~sure - a calmness or repose, especially of mind, bearing, or appearance.
I know, I know, the use of the term composure
in this instance is not exact English. I’m using it because it rhymes with exposure and still relays the close-enough idea of composition.
In general, the terms are
